Attari/Amritsar, Jan 05 (ANI): The Shiromani Akali Dal held a protest near the Attari international border on Monday to pitch for "greater vigilance along the border with Pakistan" to stop the flow of narcotics into the state. The Punjab government is fighting allegations of rampant drug use and trade in Punjab especially after Enforcement Directorate (ED) questioned Revenue Minister Bikram Majithia in the drug racket. The SAD government is now trying to shift blame to the BSF. Two-hour-long sit-ins will also be held near Hussainiwala and Sadqi check points in Amritsar, Ferozepur and Fazilka border districts respectively. PM Narendra Modi launches National Programme for LED bulb distribution

New Delhi, Jan 05 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday described the LED bulb as a 'Prakash Path - way to light' as he launched a scheme for LED bulb distribution under the domestic efficient lighting programme in Delhi and a national programme for LED-based home and street lighting. Prime Minister Modi also symbolically replaced one bulb in South Block, with an LED bulb. Replacement of all bulbs in South Block with LED bulbs will enable savings of 7,000 units of energy each month. Youth hurls shoe at Manjhi during Janata Darbar, detained

Patna, Jan 05 (ANI): A youth hurled shoe at Bihar Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi on Monday while the leader was addressing people at the Janata Darbar in Patna. However, the shoe did not hit Manjhi. According to the reports, the youth is a resident of Chhapra region. The agitated youth repeatedly said that Manjhi's 'janata durbar' is a farce. The youth has been detained by the Patna Police and is being interrogated. Annual Magh Mela starts in Allahabad amidst tight security

Allahabad, Jan 05 (ANI): With the annual Magh Mela beginning on Monday, police have stepped up security in Allahabad city of Uttar Pradesh. During the Magh Mela, thousands of elated Hindus stream to Allahabad for taking a dip at Sangam, the confluence point, where rivers Ganges and Yamuna meet a third mythical river. Several cultural events such as dramatic portrayals from Hindu Epics with music and dance performances, folk theatre are a part of the grand event. Free food and accommodation is provided to Hindu sages and people attending the fair. Reportedly over 25 lakh pilgrims are expected to turn up on the first day of this month-long event. In order to ensure that no untoward incident takes place, the police are leaving no stone unturned in matters of security. MEA briefs about Indian labourers' dispute in Sri Lanka

New Delhi, Jan 05 (ANI): Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin on Monday briefed about the dispute between Indian labourers and a Sri Lankan company in Colombo. Akbaruddin said that the Indian Foreign Ministry is maintaining continuous contact with the High Commission in Colombo to keep information updated. He added that the Indian authorities have also been giving the labourers allowance. Won't form alliance in J-K in haste, says BJP

New Delhi, Jan 5 (ANI): Asserting that all options are open for government formation in Jammu and Kashmir, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president Jugal Kishore on Monday said that his party would not form an alliance in haste as they want a stable government which would last for six years. Earlier, the BJP had stated that any attempt to form a government in Jammu and Kashmir without its inclusion will be a travesty of the mandate given by the people of the state. The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections threw up a hung verdict, with the PDP emerging as the single-largest party winning 28 seats.
