Vishakhapatnam, Oct 12 (ANI): The outer edge of cyclone Hudhud made landfall at Kailasagiri in Vizag on Sunday. The cyclonic wind has recorded a speed of 180KmPH in the port city. The Indian Meteorological Department rated Hudhud as a very severe cyclonic storm that could pack gusts of 195 km/h and dump more than 24.5 cm of rain when it makes landfall. Meanwhile, residents in Visakhapatnam accused state government in Andhra Pradesh for lack of preparations. A resident Nageshwar alleged that claims made by government that everything was normal was false. 42 teams deployed for rescue and relief: NDRF on cyclone Hudhud

New Delhi, Oct 12 (ANI): NDRF DIG Randeep Kumar Rana on Sunday said that the cyclone Hudhud will cross Vizag in about an hour and 42 teams have been deployed for rescue and relief operations. He added when cyclone Hudhud passes the windfall will be 180 kmph and this makes it a severe cyclone. He further said that no causalities have been confirmed till now. Oct 12, 2014

After crossing coast Cyclone Hudhud will maintain intensity: IMD

New Delhi/Bhubaneswar, Oct 12 (ANI): IMD Director SC Sahoo on Sunday said that cyclone Hudhud will maintain intensity after crossing the coast. He added that the cyclone speed which was till now 15 km per hour may increase and heavy rainfall may occur in few places. IMD Scientist Mrutyunjay Mahapatra said that the department has been updating the position of the cyclone in every 1 hour and that the people for their safety should co-operate with the management. Visakhapatnam, Oct 12 (ANI): Heavy rains and wind intensified as cyclonic storm Hudhud grew in sheer force in Bay of Bengal, uprooting trees and threatening to devastate farmlands as it is about to make landfall in Andhra Pradesh on Sunday. Around 150,000 people have been evacuated in Andhra Pradesh to high-rise buildings, shelters and relief centres. Authorities have been stocking cyclone shelters with dry rations, water purification tablets and generators. They have opened up 24-hour emergency control rooms and dispatched satellite phones to officials in charge of vulnerable districts. INLD chief O P Chautala surrenders at Tihar Jail

New Delhi, Oct 12 (ANI): INLD chief and Former Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala surrendered before the Tihar Jail authorities as per the Delhi High Court's orders. Before surrendering at the Tihar Jail, Chautala asked his party workers to work peacefully to make the INLD emerge victorious in the upcoming Haryana assembly elections. Chautala had been convicted and sentenced to 10 years jail term in the JBT teachers recruitment scam case. He had been granted bail on medical grounds. PM Modi reviews preparedness for cyclone Hudhud, declares support to states

New Delhi, Oct 12 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi held an emergency meeting with the chief of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) and other officials to take detailed review of the preparedness for cyclone Hudhud, which is likely to make landfall by noon on Sunday. The meeting was held in the presence of Cabinet Secretary Ajit Seth. After the meeting Seth told that the Prime Minister has instructed to extend full assistance and support to both coastal states, where the cyclone Hudhud will make landfall. Seth said to deal with the cyclone, 24 NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) teams in Andhra Pradesh, while 18 in Odisha were mobilized along with several teams of the army being deployed. Police detain vehicle carrying explosives in West Bengal

Purulia, Oct 12 (ANI): In the backdrop of recent blast, Police detained a vehicle carrying explosives in Purulia district of West Bengal. This vehicle, a Tata Sumo, was going towards Barabazar from Boro area. Police recovered 1100 detonators and 2800 gelatine sticks from this car. Two men, identified as SK Sahabul and Rakesh Mudi have been arrested in this case. Reportedly, these men were going to deliver the explosives found in the car to a third person, Chandan Singh of Barabazar area. Purulia police is interrogating to find out if these huge quantities of explosives were being carried in connection to any Maoist or terrorist activity. This incident comes close on the heels of an explosion in Burdwan district of West Bengal that left two suspected militants dead on October 05. Oct 12, 2014

TMC blames government for blast in West Bengal

Kolkata, Oct 12 (ANI): Trinamool Congress (TMC) party blamed the Central government for the blast in West Bengal, saying the intrusion of members of extremist groups into the state led to the incident. Two suspected militants were killed and one sustained injuries in an explosion at a TMC leader's house in Burdwan district on October 2. TMC leader Partha Chatterjee said that the Central government is not serious and competent enough to depute border guards and that is why illegal migrants are intruding into West Bengal. He also said the wing of ruling BJP and Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) are disrupting the peaceful situation in the state to reap political benefits.
