Congratulations and wishes pour in for Nobel Peace Prize awardee Kailash Satyarthi

New Delhi, Oct 11 (ANI): Communications and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and anti-graft activist Kiran Bedi led the chorus of those congratulating child rights advocate Kailash Satyarthi, who won the Nobel Peace Prize along with Pakistani teenaged activist Malala Yousafzai. Satyarthi, 60, founded Bachpan Bachao Andolan in 1980 and has acted to protect the rights of 80,000 children. Moments after being announced the winner of the coveted prize, Satyarthi dedicated the honour to all those children who are still suffering in slavery, bonded labor and trafficking and thanked those who had been supporting him for more than three decades. Kailash Satyarthi and family elated on Nobel peace prize received by first person born in India

New Delhi, Oct 11 (ANI): India's Child Rights advocate Kailash Satyarthi and his family on Saturday felt elated and proud on Nobel Peace Prize won by first person born in India. Satyarthi said that it is a moment of pride and that the prize is for the country. Talking about Malala Yousafzai who had expressed her will to invite prime ministers of both countries when they receive the award in December, Satyarthi said that it upto the leaders but he will take with him the children who have faced slavery and is rescued. Approaching Cyclone Hudhud creates panic in Odisha

Odisha, Oct 11 (ANI): People living near low-lying coastal regions of Odisha resorted to panic as the weather office predicted cyclone Hudhud to be severe after it crosses the north coast of Andhra Pradesh on October 12. Cyclone Hudhud is moving in from the Bay of Bengal and is expected to develop into a very severe cyclone, packing wind speeds of up to 140 kph, before hitting the coast of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha on the morning of Sunday. Residents said that they were living in mud houses in low lying area and are prone to any such cyclonic event as there is no cyclonic shelter in the area. Odisha state machinery has been put on high alert to ensure safety of the residents especially who live near the coastline as cyclone Hudhud has crossed the remote Andaman and Nicobar Islands and is likely to make the land fall on Sunday. Nobel Peace awardee Kailash Satyarthi's daughter says crusader against child traffickers finally rew

New Delhi/ Mirzapur, Oct 11 (ANI): Proud daughter of India's Nobel peace laureate Kailash Satyarthi said that her father's relentless crusade against child labour and traffickers as well as his fight against child slavery has been recognised and rewarded. Satyarthi, 60, was picked for his struggle against the oppression of children and young people, and for the right of all children to education. In a recent editorial, Satyarthi said that data from non-government organizations indicated that child labourers could number 60 million in India or 6 percent of the total population. Pakistani teenager Malala Yousafzai, who was shot in the head by the Taliban in 2012 for advocating girls' right to education, and Indian children's right activist Kailash Satyarthi won the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize on Friday. Yousafzai said that it was an honour to share the award with Indian Children's rights advocate Kailash Satyarthi and that this gives a message of love between India and Pakistan. She said that she had a word with Satyarthi and that both advocates for peace along Indo-Pak border. Yousafzai also invited Indian PM Narendra Modi and his Pakistan counterpart Nawaz Sharif when the two receives the award in December. She also said that the award is not just a medal, but an encouragement to work for a greater cause. Fire brought under control in jewellery showroom in Mumbai; no casualty

Mumbai, Oct 11 (ANI): A major fire broke out on Saturday morning in a jewellery showroom in Mumbai. Four water tankers and five fire tenders were rushed to the spot. Mark Zuckerberg meets PM Modi, charms him with his ideas

Modi tweeted, "It was wonderful meeting @facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg. We discussed a wide range of issues". Earlier in the day, Zuckerberg, met Communications &IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad in New Delhi, pledging to help the government's Digital India initiative, an ambitious plan to connect a billion people to the internet. Carpet exporters expect boost in sales after PM Modi's US visit

Varanasi, Oct 11 (ANI): Exporters in carpet industry in Uttar Pradesh expect a boost in sales after the recent five-day US visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Traders say that the Bhadohi region of the state is one of the largest manufacturers of carpets and is considered to be an earning town. Also, 60 per cent of the carpets are exported to the US from India. In a bid to boost the industry, exporters said Modi's US visit would benefit them.
