New Delhi, Oct 14 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday felicitated the medal winners from the recently-concluded Asian Games. The 17th edition of the Asian Games was held in Incheon, South Korea, from September 19 to October 4. Later, in a tweet, the PM also lauded their feats saying they are truly 'India's pride'. Police arrest Maoist commander in Ranchi

Ranchi, Oct 14 (ANI): In a special operation Jharkhand police arrested a Maoist commander who was part of more than fifty militant activities in the region. The police received information that two Maoist groups would be meeting near the Joomla hill area in Ranchi on October 11. An operation was launched by the police and the area was surrounded. He added that around 75 mines had been recovered in the area along with arms and ammunition. Maoists, also known as Naxals, have killed police and politicians, and targeted government buildings and railway tracks in an insurgency that has killed thousands since 1960s. Oct 14, 2014

People scramble to buy essentials commodities as long queues were seen at all petrol pumps, milk booths and grocery stores in the city. Vizag, Oct 14 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday chaired a high level meeting to take stock of situation in Andhra Pradesh after the Cyclone Hudhud hit the state. PM Modi lauded the meteorological department for making efficient use of technology in predicting the intensity of the cyclone and thereby mineralizing the effect of the same. He condoled the death of people and announced compensation for the victims. He said that ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh will be given to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to those injured from the PM relief fund. After-effects of cyclone Hudhud have been felt in Uttar Pradesh as it has been receiving heavy rainfall in some parts. According to weather office, Hudhud has weakened into a deep depression but is expected to dump heavy rains in northern and northeastern India and, eventually, snow when it reaches the Himalayan Mountains.
