Flooded Kashmir s traders battle to recover catastrophic losses

Srinagar, Sep 26 (ANI): Srinagar is battling on long road to recovery of losses due to catastrophic floods that hit the valley in over a century, while emergency workers are struggling to prevent waterborne diseases like cholera as fetid water swilled around localities of the summer capital. All the shops in the downtown area commercial hub of Lal Chowk, where the famed clock tower stands in the middle of putrid water, which used to be hustling and bustling with business activities, now bears a deserted look as the markets have been completely damaged. Depressed shopkeeper Shaukat Ahmad Khan said that every trader, hawker and shopkeeper have incurred huge losses as properties have been completely destroyed in floods. Sep 26, 2014

One dead 8 injured in bomb attack targeting senior Pak police official in Karachi

Karachi, Sept 26 (ANI): At least one person was killed and eight others, including two women and police personnel, were injured when a bomb targeting a senior anti-terror police officer went off in Karachi late on Thursday. According to initial reports, the attack targeted senior anti-terror police officer, Senior Superintendent of Police, Farooq Awan, who was travelling in his bomb proof vehicle when it was attacked. The blast was so huge it was heard in various areas of the city. Police officials said that over 50kg of explosives were used in the blast. Awan and several others had been shifted to a private hospital in the area. Additional Inspector General of Police Ghulam Qadir Thebo told reporters that Awan had sustained minor injuries. However, an unidentified man was taken to hospital in critical condition. A hospital spokesperson later said the civilian had died in the hospital. Sep 26, 2014

Politicos react after NCP calls off alliance with Congress in Maharashtra

New Delhi, Sep 26 (ANI): Politicos reacted on Friday after NCP called of its 15 year old alliance with Congress and decided to fight the upcoming Maharashtra bypolls alone. Congress leader Rashid Alvi said that it is very unfortunate that the 15 year old alliance with NCP has ended and Congress has always treated NCP equally. NCP leader Majid Memon said that Congress was not giving its decision till the last moment and had also released a list of their candidates which meant they want to break their alliance. Anti-nuclear activist demands ban on construction of new units at Kudankulam nuclear plant

Chennai, Sep 26 (ANI): Anti-nuclear activist Udayakumar demanded ban on construction of unit three and four at Kudankulam nuke power plant in Tamil Nadu. Spearheading the prolonged agitation against the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project (KNPP) in Tirunelveli district, Udayakumar while addressing mediapersons said that false cases fostered on 227 billion people should be withdrawn immediately. Earlier, the Madras High Court dismissed the petition, challenging the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board's clearance to the plant to load fuel.
