Black money row: Left says BJP and Centre stand exposed

New Delhi, Oct 18 (ANI): Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Brinda Karat on Saturday criticized the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA Government at the Centre for not disclosing the names of persons having money stashed away in safe havens abroad, and alleged that it exposed the utter hypocrisy and double standards of the BJP. The CPI (M) leader demanded that the government must disclose the names of those wrong doers, who have cheated India. Protesters push for rehabilitation, demand postponement of elections in flood hit Kashmir

Srinagar, Oct 18 (ANI): Protesters in Srinagar took to streets on Saturday demanding that the state assembly elections be postponed and first priority be given to the people who have lost their homes and property in the recent floods. The devastation due to floods has also put the state assembly in a dilemma about holding the assembly elections scheduled to take place in December this year. Officials of the Election Commission of India, including the Chief Commissioner, VS Sampath and two commissioners, HS Brahma and Naseem Zaidi, are in the state on a two-day visit to survey the flood-ravaged state and review whether polls can be conducted as scheduled. They are likely to reach a decision later in the day. People of Kashmir, who have lost their livelihoods, however, feel that the government is deviating from the main agenda of rehabilitation. Jayalalithaa lands in Chennai amid massive cheers

Chennai, Oct 18 (ANI): Celebrations began in Chennai on Saturday evening as former Tamil Nadu chief minister and AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa arrived here after spending 22 days in Bangalore Central Jail following her conviction in the disproportionate assets case. Scores of AIADMK workers and supporters had gathered outside the Chennai Airport to have a glimpse of their favourite leader, who arrived here from Bangalore in a chartered plane. Jayalalithaa, who was driven to her residence amidst tight security arrangements, waved towards the supporters. Many of Jayalalithaa's supporters broke out in impromptu celebrations and cheered as her convoy passed them. The AIADMK supremo had on Friday got a major relief when the Supreme Court granted her conditional bail on medical grounds in the disproportionate assets case. Oct 18, 2014

BJP using black money issue for political gains: Congress

Taunting the BJP over the promises it had made to bring back black money to the nation from abroad, Maken said the way the BJP has used the issue for political gains, this has never been seen before. Reactions flow in after Pak army chief says resolution of Kashmir issue vital for peace

New Delhi, Oct 18 (ANI): Reactions flowed in on Saturday after Pakistan Army Chief Raheel Sharif said that the resolution of Kashmir issue is imperative for peace in the region. Defence Expert Lt Gen (Retd) Vinod Bhatia said that Pakistan is trying to internationalize the issue of Kashmir and hence Pakistan officials are raising the issue over and again. Defence Expert Lt Gen (Retd) Raj Kadyan said that peace talks can take place between the two countries only when Pakistan stops violating ceasefire agreement and killing the innocent civilians of India. Fire engulfs coach of election special train near Allahabad

Allahabad, Oct 18 (ANI): A coach of an election special train returning from Maharashtra to Assam carrying election duty army and security officials caught fire near Allahabad. The bogie was separated from the engine and later the fire was put off. District Magistrate of Allahabad, VK Tiwari said that the fire was controlled by fire officials and ambulances are also called in to tackle the situation. DA Case: Jayalalithaa released from jail

The Supreme Court granted her interim bail on medical grounds in disproportionate assets case on Friday. A huge convoy escorted the AIADMK chief out of Bangalore jail. Jayalalithaa will take a private flight from HAL airport to Chennai, where thousands of party workers are waiting to welcome her. 51 countries participate in World Junior Chess Championship in Pune

Pune, Oct 18 (ANI): Over 200 players from 51 countries converged in Pune city of Maharashtra to take part in World Junior Chess Championship. Winners of the championship, which will conclude on October 20, will be honoured with grandmaster titles and grandmaster norms. Participants from various countries including China and Russia are in the competition. Chairman of Maharashtra Chess Association Ravindra Dongre said that the junior championship is one of the most important chess events of the World Chess Federation. He further said that it will generate greater interest in chess among the budding players. Opposition slams govt over Black Money, BJP defends

New Delhi, Oct 18 (ANI): Opposition parties on Saturday slammed the government over black money case. The Central government had earlier denied to reveal names of those involved in black money and later said that names shall be revealed once proved guilty. NCP leader Tariq Anwar said that there is no difference between the previous UPA government and the new government because both did the same thing. Congress leader PC Chacko said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi owes an apology to the people of the country because he had promised them in the elections that black money will be brought back to the country. BJP slams Mamata Banerjee for blaming govt on security in WB

New Delhi, Oct 18 (ANI): The BJP on Saturday slammed West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for blaming the Central government over security in the state. Supporters gather before Jayalalitha's release from jail, Police tightens security

Bangalore, Oct 18 (ANI): AIADMK Supporters gathered outside the airport in Bangalore before the release of Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalitha from the jail. Bangalore's Police Commissioner MN Reddi said that security has been fully tightened along the route which Jayalalitha is expected to be brought out from jail. He added that they are not yet informed about the time by which she will be out of jail.
