Srinagar, Nov 11 (ANI): Refuting any claims of alliance with BJP, People's Conference Chief Sajjad Lone said that he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi only to discuss about Jammu and Kashmir relief and rehabilitation. He said that he talked about speedy rehabilitation in the flood hit state and more intervention from the state on the matter. AMU VC refutes any sexist remark, says University do not differentiate between girls and boys

Lucknow, Nov 11 (ANI): Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) Vice-Chancellor Lt Gen Zameer Uddin Shah on Tuesday refuted any sexist remark by him. He said that his statement has been sensationalized by the media and that he only meant to say that the University library had no space to accommodate any more students. Shah said that all the university books are available to all the students online and there is no need to come to already packed library. Secondly, he also said that the passage to the library is also not safe for students. Gujarat EC HS Brahma questions on intensity of punishment for violators of Compulsory Voting Bill, P

New Delhi, Nov 11 (ANI): Political leaders on Tuesday react after Gujarat Election Commissioner HS Brahma said that in his view, the Gujarat government’s move to make voting compulsory in elections to local bodies "may not be correct". He also questioned on the intensity of punishment for the violators of Compulsory Voting Bill and asked if the state government will put eight crore voters in jail or impose fines on them on violation. Congress leaders Arjun Modhwadia and Rashid Alvi supported the statement and said that the same needs to be decided first by the state government. Modhwadia also challenged the feasibility of punishing a large section of offenders. NCP and BJD too followed suit and said that EC has raised correct question. Cabinet Ministers Rudy, Naqvi and Birender Singh take charge

New Delhi, Nov 11 (ANI): The newly appointed Cabinet Ministers Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and Ch Birender Singh took charge of their respective offices on Tuesday. Naqvi and Rudy took charge as Ministers of State for Parliamentary Affairs in the presence of Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu. Paramilitary holds shooting contest to test marksmanship of personnel

Kadarpur, Nov 11 (ANI): India's paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force organised a shooting competition to test the marksmanship of its personnel and to inculcate an atmosphere of sportsmanship and healthy competition. Around 766 police personnel from across the country participated in this annual shooting competition held in Kadarpur village in Haryana. This year, a total of 31 teams from 24 states took part. Speaking on the event, Director General of India's paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Pranay Sahay, told mediapersons that it is a useful platform for police personnel. Olympic medalist, boxer Yogeshwar Dutt, personnel of Haryana police received the Padma Shri, fourth highest civilian award of India, while female boxer, Mary Kom, working with Manipur police received the third highest civilian award, Padma Bhushan for their stellar performances in the games. Bilaspur sterilization mishap: Chhattisgarh CM suspends four doctors, announces compensation for vic

Bilaspur, Nov 11 (ANI): After eight women lost lives due to sterilisation surgeries went wrong in Bilaspur district of Chhattisgarh, state Chief Minister Raman Singh said that four doctors involved were suspended and a case of criminal offense has been filed against them. Singh also said that the case is of medical negligence by the doctors and will be dealt with seriously by the state government. He also announced compensation of Rs. 4 lakh to families of dead and free medical treatment and Rs.50,000 to those undergoing treatment in hospital. Eight women had died after they underwent sterilisation surgeries at a camp on the outskirts of Bilaspur in Chhattisgarh. The women had been discharged on Saturday after being given medicines. Politicos condemn explosion in Kolkata

New Delhi, Nov 11 (ANI): Political leaders on Tuesday (November 11) condemned the deteriorating security in Kolkata city following an explosion near the office of federal counter-terror intelligence agency. A senior police official investigating the incident said no trace of explosive had been found in the area near the National Investigation Agency (NIA) office in the city. An interior ministry official had said according to preliminary information nobody had been injured. The official, who did not wish to be named, said the ministry planned to send a team from Delhi to investigate the matter. Newly-appointed Minister of State for parliamentary affairs, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, called the incident unfortunate. Congress leader Rashid Alvi, demanded a thorough investigation in the case.
