New Delhi, Nov 12 (ANI): The Congress sparked a controversy on Wednesday after it invited 15 political parties from other countries and "all like-minded political parties" for an international conference in Delhi to commemorate the 125th birth anniversary of India's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, while skipping Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Sri Lanka President willing to pardon 5 Tamil fishermen on death row, politicos react

New Delhi, Nov 12 (ANI): Politicos in India welcomed the Sri Lankan government's decision to free Indian fishermen on death row in the island country without any conditions. However, Sri Lankan Minister Prabha Ganesan told Indian High Commission officials in Colombo that for this to happen, Indian has to withdraw the appeal filed in the Supreme Court against the High Court verdict. If India withdraws the appeal, President Mahinda Rajapaksa would pardon the Indian fishermen awarded death for alleged drug trafficking without any pre-conditions. Nov 12, 2014

India files appeal in Sri Lankan court against fishermen death sentence

Nay Pyi Taw, Oct 12 (ANI): India has filed an appeal in the Sri Lankan Supreme Court against verdict of the high court that awarded death sentence to five Indian fishermen in the island nation in a drug smuggling case. Five Indian fishermen were arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy in 2011 on charges of smuggling drugs and on October 30, the Colombo High Court held the five fishermen guilty of drug trafficking. Foreign ministry spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin, while addressing mediapersons in Myanmar capital Nay Pyi Taw, said India was confident that justice would prevail in the case. Indian security forces launch massive anti-Maoist drive in poll-bound Jharkhand

Gumla, Nov 12 (ANI): Indian security forces have launched a massive anti-Maoist operation in poll-bound Jharkhand to prevent any untoward incident in the election process, stated a senior officer. Jharkhand police officials held a meeting with senior officials of neighbouring Chhattisgarh in one of the worst rebel-infested Gumla districts in the country, which will go to polls on November 25, to devise an effective plan. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of police, Praveen Singh, assured that electorates wouldn’t feel threatened by the ultras. Maoists have called for boycott of the five-phased polls in Jharkhand that begins from November 25 and end on December 20. The results would be announced on December 23. Shiv Sena vows to vote against BJP in Maharashtra, to sit in opposition

Mumbai, Nov 12 (ANI): With just hours to go for the trust vote in the Maharashtra assembly, Shiv Sena on Wednesday said that the party will be voting against state Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who will be seeking vote of confidence in the state assembly today. Party leader Ramdas Kadam said that Uddhav Thackeray has decided to sit in opposition in Maharashtra. He said that Shiv Sena is trying its best to sort things out from past month, nut the BJP is not ready to change which ultimately resulted in this decision. BJP accuses Congress leader of stashing black money

New Delhi, Nov 12 (ANI): India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has alleged that many senior leaders of opposition Congress party had stashed black money not only abroad but also at home. BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra, during a news briefing accused spokesperson of Congress party, Abhishek Manu Singhvi, of evading taxes and generating black money. Patra was reacting to the Income Tax Department's Settlement Commission move to slap Singhvi with a penalty of Rs. 56.57 crore, and its decision to add over Rs. 91.95 crore to his declared professional income for a period of three years. Patra said that the Income Tax department also contested Singhvi’s claim that he purchased laptops worth rupees five crore for his staff members over three financial years. Nov 12, 2014

New Delhi, Nov 12 (ANI): India set up a ministry to promote alternative therapies such as yoga and traditional ayurveda medicine, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarked on a mission to raise awareness and the appeal of home-grown health treatments. Modi has repeatedly called for greater use of India's health remedies and exercises, part of a push to promote traditional learning. During his first address at the United Nations in September, he encouraged more people to take up yoga and called for an International Yoga Day.
