Yasin Malik's supporters protest his arrest by police in Srinagar

Srinagar, Oct 30 (ANI): Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) leader Yasin Malik's supporters protested against their leader's arrest on Thursday. Malik was reportedly leading a campaign to boycott assembly elections scheduled to be held in Jammu and Kashmir next month, for which he was taken into preventive custody today.The supporters even pelted stones at the police in the city's Maisuma area, after which the police resorted to firing of tear gas shells and a baton charge to disperse the mob.Malik was previously arrested earlier this month, ahead of Eid prayers at Abi Guzar near Lal Chowk while he was preparing to hold an anti-election protest. Speculations over alliance in Maharashtra remain intact

Mumbai/ New Delhi/ Kolkata, Oct 30 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday said it was not concerned about any party's support to them while forming government in Maharashtra as its former ally warns it to form alliance with any other party. In its editorial mouthpiece, 'Saamna', Shiv Sena warned BJP of forming government in Maharashtra with the support of NCP. BJP Vice-President Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said they were fine with any party's support. The BJP announced name of Devendra Fadnavis as chief minister on Tuesday and will stake claim to form the government on Friday. However, NCP Leader Majid Memon rubbished any significance of the editorial. PM Modi appreciates leading citizens for participating in 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan'

New Delhi, Oct 30 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday lauded Bollywood mega star Amitabh Bachchan among others for participating in his pet project 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan'. Modi took to twitter to appreciate the efforts of leading citizens for giving a boss to the Clean India Campaign. He twitted saying, "Who won't get inspired when @SrBachchan himself wields the broom and joins Swachh Bharat Mission! Very significant effort." The prime minister also retweeted Bachchan's tweets. Prime Minister Modi also lauded 35-year-old Laila Shah who wielded broom in the streets of violence-hit Trilokpuri area in Delhi. He tweeted, "Good effort by Laila Shah and her friends towards Clean India. Such efforts are a big strength for Swachh Bharat Mission!" The prime minister also praised hockey player Sardara Singh. BJP leaders detained by police in West Bengal's Birbhum District

Birbhum, Oct 30 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders led by Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi were detained on Thursday for defying prohibitory orders in Birbhum District. West Bengal Police later took all BJP leaders, including Kirti Azad in buses to ensure that no untoward incident takes place. They are expected to submit a report about the incident to the central leadership of the party. Earlier this week, three persons were reportedly killed and many injured, and at least five houses were set on fire when the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the BJP supporters fought a gun battle at Makra village in Birbhum District. Kashmir flood victims await assistance to rebuild homes

Rajouri, Oct 30 (ANI): People continue to live in makeshift tents and are demanding compensation from the government, a month after the worst floods in a century hit Jammu and Kashmir. A resident, Mohammad Kabir, said they were concerned about their safety, especially children, as winters were approaching. Kabir said the government should take immediate measures to rebuild their houses and ensure regular water and power supply. The victims also complained that the government was not paying any heed to their losses and not issuing compensation for the same. Meanwhile, another resident, Haji Mohammad Alam Khan, said due to floods in local Thana Mandi area, 13 people died and with the help of the army restoration work had started. Oct 30, 2014

Delhi government formation: Politicos react after SC supports Jung's effort

New Delhi, Oct 30 (ANI): Politicos reacted on Thursday after Supreme Court termed Lt Governor Najeeb Jung move to talk to all political parties on forming a government in Delhi as 'positive'. BJP leader Satish Upadhyay said that BJP welcomes the decision of the court. He added that after Jung takes a decision, the party will comment accordingly. Condemning reactions flow over UP Police reply to RTI on Rape

Delhi/ Lucknow, Oct 30 (ANI): Condemning reactions flowed on Thursday over the improper reply given by Uttar Pradesh Police to an RTI filed questioning the reasons for increasing rapes in the state. The police had replied to the RTI saying that improper dressing of women, use of mobiles and internet is responsible for increasing crimes against women. Chairperson of Delhi Commission for Women, Barkha Shukla Singh said that such remarks made by the police officials are condemnable and unacceptable. IPS Officer Amitabh Thakur said that being a police official himself he finds reasons given by the police inappropriate. BSP leader Sudhindra Bhadoria said that the Samajwadi Party government is responsible for such law and order in the state where even police does not take responsibility of increasing crimes. Meerut, Oct 30 (ANI): In a RTI filed on increasing rapes by an activist in Meerut city of Uttar Pradesh the state Police has held factors like improper dressing, use of mobile phones and internet responsible for such crimes. BJP leader visits Kolkata to assess damage to his partymen in clashes with TMC

Kolkata/Birbhum, Oct 30 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Vice-President Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi visited West Bengal on Thursday to assess the killing of party workers allegedly by members of the regional Trinamool Congress (TMC) and called the state government a party of militants, mafias and criminals. Naqvi said that TMC should use their efforts in helping the people there, instead of attacking them. Three persons were killed and many severely injured in a clash between the TMC and BJP supporters at Makra village in Birbhum district in West Bengal. Several houses were also burnt down. Concerned dept began work, process time consuming: SIT on Black Money

New Delhi, Oct 30 (ANI): The member of SIT on Black Money, Arijit Pasayat said that the concerned department has begun working and it has now reached the stage of investigation. He said that the investigation involves Income Tax department and added that the report will be submitted by the date given by Supreme Court. Cyclone Nilofar: MeT says rainfall expected, NDRF ready with rescue teams

Ahmedabad, Oct 30 (ANI): As Cyclone Nilofar is about to hit the coast of Gujarat the teams of NDRF have been made ready by the state government. Meanwhile the Director of Ahmedabad Meteorological Department, Manorama Mohanty said that the cyclone is expected to make landfall followed by heavy rainfall for the next 48 hours in the coastal areas of Gujarat.
