Police will take Uber rape accused driver's previous conducts into account, women safety priority: B

New Delhi, Dec 10 (ANI): Even as Delhi Police recovers iPhone of rape accused driver Shiv Kumar Yadav, given by employer Uber, from Mathura Police Commissioner BS Bassi on Wednesday said that they will be taking the accused driver's previous conducts into account. He said that the safety of women is a priority for the Delhi police and they are working hard in the sphere. Bassi also said that Delhi police is strengthening and increasing the number of patrolling police party and female constables among other things to avoid crime against women. SC extends stay on execution of 1993 Mumbai blasts convict Yakub Memon

New Delhi, Dec 10 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Wednesday further extended the stay on the execution of Yakub Abdul Razak Memon, lone death row convict in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case. The court issued notices to STF Maharashtra and CBI on Memon's plea seeking review of death penalty in the blasts case. The court had on March 21, 2013, upheld the death sentence of Memon. At least 257 people were killed in 13 blasts at several Mumbai landmarks, including the Bombay Stock Exchange, a popular cinema and two crowded markets. Dec 10, 2014

The Prime Minister took to twitter to pay his tributes to Rajaji. He tweeted saying, "I offer my tributes to the great freedom fighter, scholar and thinker par excellence, Shri C Rajagopalachari on his birth anniversary. Rajaji was known for his administrative and political skills as well as for his literary and cultural pursuits. A remarkable personality!" he added. Born in 1878, Rajagopalachari was the last Governor-General of India. Satyarthi, Malala to formally receive Nobel Peace Prize

New Delhi, Dec 10 (ANI): India's Kailash Satyarthi and Pakistan's Malala Yousafzai will be formally conferred with the Nobel Peace Prize on Wednesday. They would receive the award at a ceremony in Oslo for their fight against the oppression of children and their right to education. Satyarthi, who gave up a career as an electrical engineer in 1980 to campaign against child labour, has headed various forms of peaceful protest. His non-government organization, Bachpan Bachao Andolan has been credited with freeing more than 80,000 child labourers in India over 30 years. Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa visits Tirumala Venkateswara Temple in AP

Tirupati, Dec 10 (ANI): Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa in the wee hours on Wednesday offered prayers at Tirumala Venkateswara Temple with his family in the revered Hindu temple town of Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh amid tight security. Rajapaksa was in the temple for about an hour, participating in the ‘Suprabhatam' recitation ritual conducted by a group of priests inside the temple. Police had made elaborate security arrangements to prevent any untoward incident, as some of the political parties in neighbouring Tamil Nadu state are hostile to the leader due to ethnic Tamil issues in the island nation. Reportedly, Rajapaksa is visiting the temple on the advice of his astrologers which would help him win the Presidential poll in Sri Lanka scheduled for January 08, 2015. Thereafter, the Sri Lankan president left for airport ending his visit to India. Meanwhile, MDMK supporters staged protest and shouted slogans in Tirupati against Rajapaksa’s visit. Dec 10, 2014
