India expects fruitful outcome from Russian President's visit: MEA

New Delhi, Dec 11 (ANI): Indian foreign ministry spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said on Thursday that the country is expecting a fruitful outcome from Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit. Putin arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday in an attempt to revive a historic friendship that has faded over the years, seeking to improve cooperation in energy, defence and nuclear power. He will have his first summit with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a time when Russia is at odds with the West over Ukraine, and its economy is stalling as oil prices tumble to their lowest point in five years. Akbaruddin said there is enormous potential in India-Russia nuclear energy cooperation. Putin and Modi are also expected to hold an interaction with Chief Executive Officers (CEO) of major companies. Cabinet approves Insurance Bill, politicos react

New Delhi, Dec 11 (ANI): The Cabinet has approved the official amendments to the Insurance Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2008 and to its introduction in the Rajya Sabha. A decision in this regard was taken by it at a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi yesterday. Govt approves Rs 5 lakh compensation for 1984 riot victims' kin

New Delhi, Dec 11 (ANI): The Government has approved a compensation of Rs. 5 lakh each to the kin of victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. The decision was taken by the Union Cabinet at a meeting led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. According to reports, the amount is an additional compensation which will be given to the families of the riot victims apart from what they have so far received from the government and other agencies. Over 3,000 victims of the 1984 violence, triggered by the assassination of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, are likely to benefit from the government's announcement. Bangladeshi Hindus protest against injustice on International Human Rights Day

Dhaka, Dec 11 (ANI): The minority Hindu community in Bangladesh staged a protest in Dhaka against violence and injustice inflicted on them during the general elections earlier this year on International Human Rights Day. Violence had gripped Bangladesh as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her ruling Awami League had pressed ahead with vote on January 05. Violent clashes had erupted in Bangladesh in December 2013 and January this year as opposition supporters had protested against a January 5 general election, which they boycotted letting more than half of 300 parliament seats go uncontested, undermining the legitimacy of the election. Vice-president of a human rights organization, Global Human Rights Defence, Manik Chandra Sarker, said it was unfortunate that the Bangladesh parliament had not addressed the plight of Hindus in the country. Like across the globe, International Human Rights Day commemorating the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights has been being observed in Bangladesh also. Dec 11, 2014

Russia's Vladimir Putin arrives in India to deepen ties

New Delhi, Dec 11 (ANI):Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in New Delhi to boost ties that would encompass issues from defence to nuclear power and even diamonds. Putin's India visit will prepare the way for two Siberian oil deals and chart a route for a first pipeline between the two countries.On Putin's arrival, Modi tweeted:"Delighted to welcome President Putin to India! Looking forward to a productive visit that will take India-Russia ties to newer heights". On Thursday Putin and Modi will hold delegation-level talks and also inaugurate World Diamond Conference.Though both Modi and Putin have met earlier but structured bilateral talks have not been held so far.
