'Ghar wapsi' held in Bengal, 150 tribals converted to Hinduism; politicos react

New Delhi, Jan 29 (ANI): Reactions poured in on Thursday as reports emerged that the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) allegedly re-converted over 100 tribals to Hinduism in West Bengal. Over a dozen adivasi Christian families - some 100 people, including children - reportedly attended the conversion programme. However, the district administration and senior VHP leaders refused to call it a conversion because none of the adivasis had placed an affidavit for name change. Jan 29, 2015

Kejriwal claims 'opponents trying to buy AAP volunteers'

New Delhi, Jan 29 (ANI): AAP Chief Arvind Kejriwal claimed claimed that the opponents are trying to buy their volunteers. Kejriwal had tweeted, "Opponents trying to "buy" our volunteers. He had also declared that a conspiracy was being hatched against his party by a "senior leader" by planting false stories against AAP candidates in the media. The party is so worried that in a day or so it is expected to send a written complaint to the election commission stating its fear. Meanwhile, AAP leader Manish Sisodia said that BJP's CM Candidate Kiran Bedi used to say that nobody should vote for BJP, a party who can't give account of their funds. Building collapse in New Delhi injures three, kills one

New Delhi, Jan 29 (ANI): Three labourers got injured and one was dead after an under-construction building collapsed in New Delhi’s east Kidwai Nagar on Thursday (January 29). India needs 'predictable' tax regime, says Jayant Sinha

New Delhi, Jan 29 (ANI): India needs a 'simple, predictable and fair' tax regime to restore foreign investor confidence, said Minister of State for Finance Jayant Sinha on Thursday. On Wednesday, the Bombay High Court dismissed a tax notice amounting to Rs 3,200 crore sent against Vodafone, ruling that there is no taxable income on share premium received on the issue of shares. Kalyan Singh sworn in as Governor of Himachal Pradesh

Shimla, Jan 29 (ANI): The governor of Rajasthan, Kalyan Singh took additional charge as the governor of Himachal Pradesh. The Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh High Court, Mansoor Ahmed Mir gave oath of office as the 26th governor of Himachal Pradesh. Speaking to media in Shimla's Raj Bhawan, he said that he is pleased to follow the orders of the President Pranab Mukherjee. He also said that he has an emotional bonding with the state of Himachal Pradesh and would discharge the duty as governor of the state. The President has earlier this month asked Rajasthan Governor Kalyan Singh to discharge the functions of the Governor of Himachal Pradesh, in addition to his own duties, till further orders. Foreign Secretary Dr S Jaishankar meets EAM Sushma Swaraj

New Delhi, Jan 29 (ANI): Foreign Secretary Dr S Jaishankar met External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj in her office on Thursday. Earlier in the day, Dr S Jaishankar took charge as the new Foreign Secretary, replacing Sujatha Singh whose tenure has been curtailed by nearly seven months. The decision was taken last night by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. As per the order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training, Dr Jaishankar will have tenure of two years from the date he assumes charge.
