Traffic authorities in Kashmir hold rally to spread awareness on road safety

Srinagar, Jan 17 (ANI): Traffic police in Jammu and Kashmir organised a rally to mark Road Safety Week in order to spread awareness on traffic rules and regulations among the residents. The week-long awareness rally by traffic authorities concluded on Saturday with various programmes including walkathon, road shows and seminars. Many hoardings and banners were also put up that read 'Safety is just not a slogan, it is a way of life' which was also the theme of this year's Road Safety Week. Residents of Kashmir valley expressed satisfaction at the initiative taken by the authorities that concerned people's safety. But they also expressed concern at the low maintenance of roads. Japan Foreign Minister says will invest in India's northeast

New Delhi, Jan 17 (ANI): Japan Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida said on Saturday that Japan would invest in building roads and infrastructure in India's northeast. Building infrastructure such as power plants, industries and telecommunication hubs in the northeast would be a major contributor to connect the key region with Southeast Asian countries. Japan has promised to give India $ 35 billion for developmental projects. Kishida arrived in New Delhi on Friday to co-chair the eighth India-Japan Strategic Dialogue with his Indian counterpart Sushma Swaraj. Police arrest four on charges of forging travel papers for Pakistan citizens

Godhra, Jan 17 (ANI): Police in Gujarat have claimed to have unearthed a forgery scam facilitating visas for visiting Pakistani citizens illegally. Police said they have arrested four persons so far from Godhra who were found forging travel documents on the basis of which Pakistani citizens were getting their Indian visas from Islamabad. Farmers compete to win bullock cart race in Visakhapatnam

Visakhapatnam, Jan 17 (ANI): City dwellers flocked to the rural areas of Visakhapatnam on Saturday to witness bullock carts racing, a part of harvest festival Makar Sankranti. In the Munagapaka hamlet, the village council called farmers to get their bullocks with the added incentive of prizes. Visitors said that bullock racing was very typical of Indian culture, one which was slowly losing itself as generations' progress. Police tighten security near Taj Mahal after US warns of militant threat

Agra, Jan 17 (ANI): Security has been tightened in and around Taj Mahal in Agra ahead of US President Barack Obama's visit. The US president will arrive in New Delhi on January 25 and hold discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who visited Washington in September. An official agenda has not been released. According to media reports, Obama is likely to visit Taj Mahal. Senior police officials said they were taking no chances with security after an alert from US intelligence that militants operating from Pakistan could target the Agra-Delhi Yamuna expressway. Aviation Expert calls Air India pilot and engineer fight inside cockpit 'shameful'

New Delhi, Jan 17 (ANI): Aviation Expert Harshvardhan on Saturday called fight between Air India pilot and an aircraft engineer inside the cockpit as 'shameful'. Air India flight was delayed by more than two hours after the two employees had a difference of opinion which ended up in a fight inside the cockpit on Saturday. The pilot and the engineer are injured. The aircraft is an A319, which is a relatively new plane. The aviation expert said that this reflects their character and that immediate action should be taken in the matter. Latehar, Jan 17 (ANI): Communist Party of India (Maoist) called for a shutdown on Saturday in Jharkhand and Bihar in protest against the death of its cadres who had been gunned down during an encounter in Hazaribagh District recently. The shutdown had an impact in the Latehar District of Jharkhand, where no public transport or heavy vehicles were seen plying on the National Highway (NH) 75 and NH 99. Govt. accepts CBFC chief Leela Samson's resignation

New Delhi, Jan 17 (ANI): The government has accepted the resignation of Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) chairperson Leela Samson. Samson had resigned following the clearance given by Film Certification Appellate Tribunal (FCAT) to Dera Sachcha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh's film, 'Messenger of God'. She had alleged interference, coercion and corruption of panel members and officers of the Board who are appointed by the Information and Broadcasting Ministry.
