Police arrest two men, recover large amount of explosives in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, Jan 22(ANI): Police on Wednesday recovered detonators, gelatin bars and explosives in Hyderabad after they arrested two individuals who were supplying the explosives illegally. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police of Hyderabad, N. Koti Reddy, said the suspects had been arrested and further investigation is on. He added that another suspect, Rama Krishna, 50, was absconding. The arrest of the two men and subsequent recovery of explosives comes days before U.S. President Barack Obama's visit to India as it celebrates its Republic Day on January 26. Special team to visit swine flu-hit Telangana

New Delhi, Jan 22 (ANI): Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda, on Wednesday said that a central government-level team will visit southern Telangana to review swine flu outbreak. According to officials, 173 cases of swine flu have been reported in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, of which 169 cases are from the former state. Speaking to media, Nadda said Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao has been assured of full support from the central government in keeping a check on the outbreak. Jadav Payeng develops 1,400 acres of forest area in Assam

Assam, Jan 22 (ANI): Situated along the Brahmaputra River, Jorhat district of Assam is home to the largest river island on earth, Majuli. Located along with a number of barren sandbars, the area was once heavily eroded due to frequent floods. However, with the individual effort of Jadav Payeng, there is now 1,400 acres of lush forest in the area. Since 1979, Payeng has been single-handedly planting and nurturing various species of trees, including vast expanses of bamboo groves. The vast forest is now home to a variety of wildlife species including the endangered Royal Bengal Tiger and a number of migratory birds. Payeng lives in a small hut in the forest along with his family and survives by selling milk. His work has received much appreciation across the country and he was named as the 'Forest Man of India' by the Jawaharlal Nehru University. Honoring his work, the Assam government also named the forest Mulai kathoni bar, after his nickname. Jan 22, 2015
