India Pakistan exchange sweets on Republic Day

Kaman Aman Setu, Jan 26 (ANI): Indian and Pakistani troops along the Line of Control (LoC) exchanged sweets on the occasion of 66th Republic Day on Monday. A unit of 12 Infantry Brigade of the Army exchanged sweets with their Pakistan counterparts at Kaman Post in Uri sector on Srinagar-Muzaffarabad Road. Despite ceasefire violations and infiltration bids from across the border, the exchange of sweets between army personnel of India and Pakistan along the LoC on their respective days of national importance has been a regular feature. Police recover IED in Assam on Republic Day

Jorhat/ Imphal, Jan 26 (ANI): Police officials recovered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) and later demolished it in Assam on Monday (January 26), on the occasion of country’s 66th Republic Day. Police said they recovered the bomb from the boundary wall of a refinery godown in Jorhat city. The IED weighing two kilogram was wrapped in black polythene bag. Later, the Bomb Disposal Squad of Assam Police detonated the bomb. Earlier in the day low intensity blasts rocked Imphal city in Manipur. Police personnel were deployed at key locations in Imphal leading towards the venue of Republic Day celebrations. Manipur celebrated the Republic Day with great fervour as school children marched and people performed traditional dances. Jan 26, 2015

US President Obama and PM Modi attends "At Home" Reception at Rashtrapati Bhavan

New Delhi, Jan 26 (ANI): US President Barack Obama along with First Lady Michelle Obama on Monday attended the "At Home" Reception, which was hosted by President Pranab Mukherjee at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. The reception was also attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vice-President Hamid Ansari, and Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Manmohan Singh and wife Gursharan Kaur also met Barack and Michelle Obama. Obama and Modi interacted with the guests and dignitaries present at the reception. Obama was also seeing engaged in a conversation with Modi. US President Barack Obama is on a three-day visit to India. Jaipur/ Vadodara, Jan 26 (ANI): Vintage car owners and collectors converged in Jaipur and Vadodara for car rallies, enthralling visitors. The 17th annual vintage car rally drew spectators to Jaipur to get a glimpse of royal era. More than 100 vintage pieces were displayed for the car lovers. Meanwhile, crowds also attended a similar rally in Vadodara city, where around 56 vintage cars were on display. The rally was a part of four-day 'Vadfest', an art and cultural event in the city. State governors and dignitaries mark 66th Republic Day in India

Bhopal/ Hyderabad/Raipur/ Vishakhapatnam/ Lucknow, Jan 26 (ANI): Indian states on Monday observed 66th Republic Day. Madhya Pradesh witnessed the parade by the police force as the state governor Ram Naresh Yadav saluted the force and greeted them on the Republic day. Uttar Pradesh being the largest Indian state witnessed various tableaux showcasing the culture and rich heritage and also the parade by the police personnel along with flypast. Meanwhile, a ceremonial parade was also held at the Eastern Naval Command parade ground in Vishakhapatnam. Vice Admiral Satish Soni, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command, took the salute. Andhra Pradesh Governor ESL Narasimhan also addressed the state on the occasion and saluted the police force. Chhattisgarh Governor Balram Das Tandon also saluted the parade and hoisted the national flag in Raipur. Republic Day honours the date on which the Constitution of India came into force on 26 January 1950 replacing the Government of India Act (1935) as the governing document of India. Twelve dead after train collides with van in Haryana

Hisar, Jan 26 (ANI): Twelve people of the same family died and three got injured on Monday after their vehicle collided with a train at an unmanned crossing in Haryana. The vehicle, Tata Ace, was carrying 15 people when it collided with a passenger train in Barwala district of Hisar. The dead bodies have been sent to a hospital for postmortem and the three injured are also admitted in the same. Police reached the spot to inspect the accident as soon as it was informed. Republic Day celebrated peacefully in Jammu and Kashmir

Srinagar/ Jammu, Jan 26 (ANI): The 66th Republic Day celebrations in Srinagar passed peacefully, despite a call given by separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani for boycotting the occasion. The celebrations, which were held at the Bakshi Stadium in the city, began with the annual military parade and State Divisional Commissioner Rohit Kansal hoisted the national flag. Despite cold conditions in the valley, students from various schools participated in the event. Also a spectacular parade was held in Jammu region to celebrate the 66th Republic Day. Contingents of the Jammu and Kashmir Police and those of the paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Border Security Force (BSF) and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) also took part in the celebrations.
