A shocking video purportedly showing the Mumbai police brutally thrashing a couple inside a police station has gone viral on social media. The young women in the video is even seen bleeding after being assaulted by the police.

An eyewitness to the incident, Ghulam Maqbool Sheikh told the media that the police slapped the woman repeatedly till she started bleeding. 

"The couple was fighting outside the police station when a constable asked the girl if she was being harassed. She said it was a personal matter and did not want any interference by the cops, nevertheless they were taken inside the police station," Sheikh told ANI.

Sheikh, who works for an NGO, said that he filmed the entire incident and demanded that strict action should be taken action the police.

A lawyer representing the couple, who are BPO employees said that they have filed an FIR against the police personnel at the Andheri police station.

The video, which has been published on YouTube, shows the police not only brutally assaulting both the man and the woman, but are also heard hurling obscenities at the two. The woman is als heard screaming out in pain as she is repeatedly hit by the police as she tries to defend the man. 

The police, however, has said that the couple were "totally drunk" and were hurling obscene remarks against each other inside the police station. The police were merely trying to seperate them,District Commissioner of Police Vinayak Deshmukh told ANI.
