Shivaay (Shivay) 1st day box office collection: Ajay Devgn's film beats Mohenjo Daro opening day earning

Ajay Devgn starrer Shivaay (Shivay) has made a good opening day collection at the box office. Cashing in on the huge hype, Shivaay has entered the list of top 10 opening day grossers of 2016.

Starring Ajay along with debutantes Erika Kaar, Sayyeshaa Saigal and Abigail Eames, Shivaay has been one of the most-awaited flicks of the year. On the first day, the movie made a mark at the single screens more than the multiplexes.

The action-thriller minted Rs 10.24 crore nett on Friday at the domestic box office, making it the 10th bigger opener of 2016. This is an overwhelming response for any film on its first day, considering that only two films have crossed Rs. 20 crore mark on the opening day in India.

"#Shivaay is STRONG at single screens/mass circuits... Fri ₹ 10.24 cr. India biz... Note: Dhanteras. Pre-Diwali," trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted. 

With the opening day collection of Rs. 10.24 crore, Shivaay has thrashed the first-day collection of Hrithik Roshan-starrer Mohenjo Daro. The Hrithik-starrer's opening day earning was Rs 8.87 crore at the Indian box office.

Ajay's last release Drishyam had collected Rs 5.8 crore on the first day, which Shivaay has certainly beaten.

While Mohenjo Daro had tough competition from Akshay Kumar's Rustom, Shivaay has clashed with Ae Dil Hai Mushkil.

Shivaay has received mixed reviews from critics and is not likely to witness much hike in its collection over the weekend as people will be busy celebrating Diwali. Shivaay is an action thriller that is primarily based on the bonding between a father and daughter.

Trade experts were optimistic that Shivaay will make a huge impact at the box office and the film may pick up pace after the festive season. With no major release next week, Shivaay is likely to witness a big jump in its collection in the coming days.
