Shinee's Onew will Save Lives in KBS Drama 'Descendants of the Sun'

K-Pop band Shinee's Onew (Lee Jin-ki) may soon be seen in the much-anticipated drama "Descendants of the Sun". His agency SM Entertainment announced that he may be looking to play the role of a doctor.

The upcoming KBS drama "Descendants of the Sun" is about the love story of UN peacekeeping-troops member Captain Yoo Shi-Jin and Doctor Kang Me-Yeon, who are both stationed in the capital of another country at the request of UN. Song Joong-Ki, who rose to fame with his role in the period drama "Sungkyunkwan Scandal" will play the role of Yoo Shi-Jin, while "That Winter, The Wind Blows" actress Song Hye-Kyo will play the role of Kang Mo-Yeon.

Two other actors confirmed for the much-anticipated series are Jin Goo, who appeared in the film "The Battle for Yeonpyeong" and Kim ji-Won, who appeared in dramas "The Heirs" and "Gap Dong".

According to SM Entertainment, Onew is vying for the role of a doctor who works with Song Hye Kyo's character in the drama directed by Lee Eung-Bok. Onew's prospective character is a young doctor that works with the international medical charity, Doctors Without Borders.

Onew was last seen on TV in "The Innocent Man", a dark melodrama involving betrayal, revenge and romance.
