Trouble in Selena Gomez's relationship with Justin Bieber started back in 2012, when she allegedly got pregnant with his baby, and was "crushed" by his reaction to the news, a new report claims.

"In 2012, she got pregnant and miscarried Justin's baby," a source told In Touch magazine, according to HollywoodLife. "Nothing in her life has been the same since. She was convinced it was meant to be and that it was a sign that she and Justin should be together forever."

When the on-again, off-again couple found out that they were expecting a baby, Gomez was excited. Despite the pregnancy not being planned, Gomez reportedly wanted to give parenthood a shot. But Bieber's lack of excitement and his fear that the pregnancy would ruin his image is said to have "crushed" her, In Touch magazine reported.

"His team felt it would ruin his career because at the time he had a clean image. They thought it would take away from his reputation as a heartthrob if he were walking around with a baby carrier at 18. Or he'd look like a real jerk if he wasn't involved in bringing up his own child," Gossipcop reported citing the In Touch source.

But the "Come and Get It" singer lost the baby when she was just two months along, according to a friend, who added that Gomez's life went on a downward spiral since the incident.

Reportedly, she tried to party away the pain of losing the baby, and this led to her rehab stint two years later.

Gomez's representative on Wednesday denied that the singer was ever pregnant.

Bieber and Gomez were most recently spotted together at the Coachella music festival in April and both have remained mute on the status of their relationship. It is believed that the Gomez-Bieber relationship suffered a setback during this time when Kylie Jenner was allegedly caught flirting with Bieber, causing Gomez to cut off her friendship with the Jenner sisters.
