A husband in Saudi Arabia was forced to divorce his new wife after she kissed a baby camel in front of his mother.

The mother-in-law was furious at his new daughter-in-law as she had "violated social and religious rules" by kissing the camel, Emirates 24/7 reported.

The mother then forced her son to divoce his wife the same day itself.

"He said he could not disobey his mother, who swore that she would disown him if he does not divorce his wife," Arabic newspaper Sada reported. The Saudi daily, however, did not mention where the incident took place.

After failing to convince his mother, the man took his wife back to her parents, where she again apologised to him.

She told him that she kissed the camel to express her delight at the camel's birth, Sada reported.

The husband was persuaded to take back his wife, however, when he returned home, his mother insisted that he must leave his wife.

Unable to convince his mother, the son has left his house and is now living at his in-laws.

"I love my husband and want to be with him forever...but I am not ready to live with his mother again," the Saudi daily quoted the wife as saying.

The couple wished to remain together, but felt that the boy's mother was using the camel kiss as an excuse to attack the daughter-in-law, The Daily Mail reported.
