After weeks of intense speculation and snapshot leaks, world's smartphone leader Samsung on Wednesday finally pulled the wraps off its rugged water-proof and dust-resistant Galaxy S4 Active smartphone.
"The GALAXY S4 Active is the newest addition to the GALAXY series and is purposefully designed for active users who love the outdoors," said JK Shin, CEO and President of IT & Mobile Communications Division at Samsung Electronics.
"Samsung has taken the innovative features of the GALAXY S4 and added breakthrough protective design elements to create a device that thrives in an active environment and is built for a lifestyle of travel and exploration." he added.
Samsung Galaxy S4 Active sports a 5.0-inch Full HD TFT LCD screen having pixel density of 443 ppi (pixels per inch) and runs on the Android V4.2.2 Jelly Bean powered by a fast 1.9GHz quad-core processor. It packs 2GB RAM and 16GB inbuilt memory which can be expanded up to 64GB through microSD card.
The key features of the smartphone is that the users can take pictures and videos under water for up to 30 minutes close to the depth of one meter and comes with water-proof earphone jack so users can listen to music while cooling off in the pool.
The new smartphone comes with Aqua-mode option which enables users to capture pictures and video underwater with more visual clarity. The rugged Galaxy S4 Active comes with sensitive display panel which can be operated with gloved hands during outdoor activity in winter.
Earlier, when the South Korean company launched the Galaxy S4 in March this year, it had recieved appreciation for its smart features, but it got panned for its build quality; now with the launch of rugged Galaxy S4 Active, Samsung has come up with formidable contender to take on metal-clad HTC One and Sony's flagship water and dust-proof Xperia Z.
The South Korean electronics behemoth has confirmed that the new Galaxy S4 Active will be available for hands-on demonstration at the upcoming 'Samsung Premiere 2013 Galaxy & ATIV' event in London on 20 June.
However, the company is still tight-lipped about the price and date of availability of Galaxy S4 Active in the global market.
