Samsung Unveils Children-Friendly ‘Galaxy Tab 3 Kids’ Tablet with Educational Apps and Games

World smartphone leader Samsung on Tuesday unveiled a new 7.0-inch tablet, PC Galaxy Tab 3 Kids, in Seoul, South Korea.

CEO and Head of IT & Mobile Communication at Samsung Electronics, JK Shin said, "It's no secret that kids are using technology more than ever before, We saw an opportunity to create a device just for kids that provides them with an intuitive, fun and kid-friendly user experience filled with rich, interactive and educational content that parents will love."

The new Galaxy Tab 3 Kids sports a 7.0-inch TFT WSVGA (1024x600) screen with pixel density of 170 ppi (pixels per inch) and runs on Android v4.1 Jelly Bean OS.

In terms of internal hardware, it packs a 1.2GHz dual-core processor with 1GB RAM and 8GB inbuilt memory with options of expansion up to 32GB via microSD card. It boasts of a 3.0-megapixel main camera on the rear side and a 1.3-megapixel secondary camera on the front.

The company said Galaxy Tab 3 Kids comes loaded with top kids-friendly educational apps, games and e-books. In order to supervise children's usage of the tablet, the 'Application Manger' will give parents the ability to select apps best suitable for their children. It also features another tool called 'Time Management', wherein parents can set the time period for tablet usage. Once the designated time runs out, the screen locks, requiring parents to unlock the device, thereby controlling the children's usage time on the tablet.

Samsung has confirmed that Galaxy Tab 3 would go on sale initially in its home market, South Korea, in early September and later in China, Europe, US, Africa, South America and South East Asia. However, the price of the tablet is still under wraps.
