South Korean smartphone maker Samsung is reportedly planning to launch a new device in India on Wednesday.

The company has begun sending invites to media houses for an event in Gurgaon on 14 October. It is widely reported that Samsung might launch either its flagship smartwatch, the Gear S2, or the rumoured mid-range smartphone Galaxy Grand On.

"The next level of innovation is here," reads Samsung's press invitation (courtesy, NDTV Gadgets 360).

The cryptic message is really hard to decipher. However, we believe Samsung is most likely to release the Gear S2 as it has already been rolled out in developed markets and long due for launch in India.

Even Samsung's arch rival Apple is reportedly planning to launch its flagship smart-wearable device around Diwali in November.

If Gear S2 is released on 14 October, it will definitely get a head-start over Apple Watch.

Even in the smartphone business, Samsung and Apple are fighting a fierce battle for market share in the top-end segment.

Samsung Gear S2:

For the uninitiated, Samsung's new Gear S2 comes in three variants – one original Gear S2, S2 Classic and S2 3G with dedicated SIM slot for standalone communication purpose.

Gear S2 and S2 Classic house the same internal hardware such as Samsung's proprietary Tizen OS backed by 1.0GHz dual-core CPU, 512MB RAM, 4GB storage and 250 mAh battery, which can power the device for two to three days under mixed usage.

The key difference between Gear S2 and S2 Classic is that the former comes in dark gray case with a dark gray band and silver case with a white band, whereas the latter ships with black case with leather band.

The Gear S2 3G too houses similar internal hardware except the battery. It ships with bigger 300 mAh capacity battery so that it has more juice to act as a standalone communication device.

All three Samsung smartwatches boast of IP68 water-and-dust resistant certifications, health-kit apps such heart-rate sensor, S Health Nike+Running and also feature NFC, Bluetooth v4.1 and Wi-Fi based connectivity features.

Stay tuned for more updates.
