The Samsung Galaxy S5 was supposed to take on the Apple iPhone 6 in the smartphone market this year but that was not to be with the current flagship device failing to impress gadget lovers. Now, the upcoming device dubbed as the Galaxy S6 will compete with the iPhone 6 when it is released in the first quarter of 2015.

Samsung Electronics is mum on the release date of its upcoming flagship device, the Galaxy S6, but several reports have suggested that it would be unveiled at the Mobile World Congress (MWC 2015) to be held in Spain from 2 to 5 March, 2015.

Going by the reports that have appeared so far, it looks like the Galaxy S6 will have features superior to its arch-rivals iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

1) Display: The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus have similar features except for the screen size and battery, with the smaller model sporting a 4.7-inch display with 1334 x 750p resolution (326 ppi pixels per inch), while the bigger variant has a 5.5-inch display with a 1920x1080p resolution (401 ppi pixels per inch). However, the Galaxy S6 is expected to have a 5.5-inch display, which is same as iPhone 6 Plus, but with 1440 x 2560 pixels, which means its screen resolution will be much higher than the two models of iPhones.

2) Memory: Both the models of iPhone 6 come packed with 16GB/64GB/128GB storage and 1GB RAM without microSD card slot, while the Samsung Galaxy S6 is expected to have 32/64/128GB internal memory, 3GB RAM or 4GB RAM and a microSD card slot.

3) Camera: The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus have 8MP main camera with phase detection autofocus and dual-LED flash features, and 1.2MP front snapper. However, the Galaxy S6 is expected to have either a 20MP main camera and 5MP front snapper or a 21MP main camera and 6MP front snapper.

4) Battery: The iPhone 6 houses a battery with 14 hours (3G) talk time and 10 days (250 hours) standby time, while the iPhone 6 Plus has a battery with talk time up to 24 hours (3G) and standby time close to 16 days (384 hours). However, the Galaxy S6 is expected to be powered by a 4000 mAh battery.

The Galaxy S6 is expected to be powered by either Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 or Exynos 7420 processor, and run on Android 5.0 Lollipop. It is expected to have significant upgrade over its predecessor, the Galaxy S5, in an attempt to please its users following the company's poor business in the third quarter of 2014.
