We already know that Samsung is hard at work on the tentatively titled 'Project Zero'. Now, more intriguing details of upcoming flagship Galaxy S series smartphone have tumbled out of the South Korean company's not-so-secure R&D vaults.

Samsung community blog SamMobile has got hold of the internal documents of the company revealing that the upcoming Samsung flagship smartphone will indeed be dubbed as Galaxy S6.

That's not all. The marquee phone will also be accompanied with a special edition Galaxy S6 Edge series, similar to the one we saw during Galaxy Note 4 launch.

The new Galaxy Note Edge boasts 5.6-inch (quad HD Plus resolution) unique curved Edge screen, which provides quick access to frequently used apps, alerts and device functionality – even when the cover is closed. Users just have to swipe their thumb to navigate on the screen. They can also receive notifications directly on the screen, while watching videos without getting disturbed.

Word on the street is that the Galaxy S6 Edge will be an advanced model with a dual-edge display, wherein phone's screen will be curved on both right and left side.

Many market analysts believe that Samsung's radical move is attributed to the company's ailing smartphone business. The company, especially this year, witnessed steep decline in its revenue.

The 2014 flagship model - Galaxy S5 - reportedly failed to live up to its reputation. Adding to the woes, Apple released bigger iPhone 6 (4.7-inch) and iPhone 6 Plus (5.5-inch), eating away some market share from Samsung in niche high-end smartphone segment, while emerging Chinese firm, Xiaomi, with its dirt-cheap feature-rich Mi-series devices has pushed Samsung to the wall in mid-range and budget-smartphone sectors.

Squeezed from both sides by Apple Inc and Xiaomi, Samsung's recent Q3 earning saw a staggering 60% plus drop in the profit margins.

Even Andy Griffiths, company's President (UK and Ireland regions), in an interview with Forbes admitted the failure of Galaxy S5 to sway consumers.

"The S5 slowdown was inevitable to some extent, and the future for Samsung will lie in its new ideas, and R&D," he said.

In that order, the company's new 'Project Zero' is expected to bring out the best smartphone from Samsung next year. It has reportedly gone back to the drawing board to create a new innovative marquee phone to invigorate the Galaxy S handset series.
