Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini with Finger-Print Sensor Unveiled; Set to Hit Stores in Select Markets This Month

After months of speculations, consumer electronics giant, Samsung finally pulled the wraps-off its flagship compact smartphone Galaxy S5 Mini on Tuesday (1 July).

"We always strive to develop devices that appeal to a range of consumer tastes and styles," said JK Shin, CEO and Head of IT & Mobile Communication, Samsung Electronics.

"The Galaxy S5 Mini allows consumers to enjoy the iconic design and essential and useful features of the Galaxy S5 through a maximized minimalism approach," he added.

The compact flagship Samsung phone houses almost all value-added features seen in its elder sibling Galaxy S5 sans the certain key internal hardware to keep the costs in check. It boasts of finger-print sensor, IP67 dust-and-water resistant certifications, IR Remote, Ultra Power Saving Mode, heart-rate sensor technology and soft perforated shell to provide better grip for users over the smartphones.

Galaxy S5 Mini flaunts a 4.5-inch HD (720 x 1280p) super AMOLED screen and ships with 1.4GHz quad-core processor, 1.5GB RAM, 16GB inbuilt storage (expandable up to 64GB) and a 2,100 mAh battery.

Other stipulated features include 8.0-megapixel camera (auto-focus & Led flash), 2.1-megapixel front camera (with full HD video recording ability) and on connectivity front, it supports 3G/ 4G-LTE Category 4 (150 mbps DL/50 Mbps UL), Bluetooth v4.0, Wi-Fi (802.11 a/b/g/n), NFC (available in LTE version only), USB v2.0 and A-GPS+GLONASS for navigation.

The company has confirmed that the new Galaxy S5 Mini will first hit markets in Russia this month and later in other global markets, but the details regarding the device's price and specific region release time-line is still under wraps.
