Samsung Galaxy Note 2 vs. LG Optimus G Pro: How Do They Stack up?

Consumer electronics company LG released a few days ago its flagship Optimus G Pro phablet into the Indian market, which is pre-dominantly led by its South Korean counterpart Samsung with its Galaxy Note series.

Optimus G Pro is the second 5.0-inch plus device to hit the market in the recent months. Lenovo had released its 5.5-inch K900 in June, but LG's main competitor would still be Galaxy Note 2 thanks to Samsung's innovative marketing campaigns such as buy-back discount offers and EMI schemes.

If prospective buyers are having a hard time choosing between these high-end phablets, here's a brief comparison which might give you an insight into these devices.

Display:

Samsung's second generation flagship phablet Galaxy Note 2 sports a 5.55-inch super AMOLED HD (1280x720p) screen with pixel density close to 267 ppi (pixels per inch). On the other hand, LG's new device boasts of a superior display resolution with full HD 1920x1080p having pixel density of more than 400 ppi.    

Processor:

In terms of power, Galaxy Note 2 packs a 1.6GHz Exynos Cortex A-9 quad-core processor, whereas Optimus G Pro too packs a quad-core (Snapdragon 600 series) processor with a higher CPU speed of 1.7GHz.

RAM and Storage:

Like all high-end smartphones, both Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and LG Optimus G Pro house 2GB RAM and 16GB inbuilt memory which can be expanded up to 64GB.

Camera:

The new LG smartphone sports a stunning 13.0-megapixel camera with auto-focus and LED flash support capable of recording 1080p full HD video. On the front-side, it sports a 2.1-megapixel camera which has the capability to record 720p HD video.

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is no less compared to its rival; it packs a decent 8.0-megapixel camera with auto-focus, LED flash and it can also record full HD 1080p video. On the front side, the phone can take HD 720p video with a 1.9-megapixel camera. Despite having low pixel count, both primary and secondary cameras deliver the required high-quality images to call itself a top-end device

Mobile Operating System:

In this aspect, both LG and Samsung smartphones stand even as they run on the popular mobile OS platform Android. Optimus G Pro ships with v4.1.2 Jelly Bean out-of-the-box, whereas Galaxy Note 2 runs on v4.1.1 Jelly Bean. According to reports, the newer v4.1.2 OS update is released via OTA (Over-the air) for the Samsung device.

Price:

LG Optimus' price is hovering around ₹39,000, whereas the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is currently selling around ₹27,500 in the market, almost 11,500 less than its competitor.

Considering the overall aspects, LG smartphone comes on top as it is new in the market and packs a better display and camera specifications. That does not mean that Galaxy Note 2 is not worth buying. But it still has enough power in its trunk to put other new high-end devices in the market to shame.
