Smartphone manufacturers are strategically adhering to the demands of consumers by launching new products at competitive costs. While Samsung remains the top smartphone manufacturer in the world, several brands, especially from China, have disrupted the smartphone market by waging a massive price war in India.

Samsung launched the Galaxy J3 in India Thursday, targeting the budget-conscious buyers due to the rising demand in the segment. Chinese players like Xiaomi, Lenovo, Meizu and LeEco have made their presence felt in the affordable smartphone segment.

Here we compare Samsung's Galaxy J3 against one of the most recent budget smartphone, Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus, as both phones fall under the same price category.

Design and display

Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus has a 5-inch display with Full HD (1920 x 1080p) resolution and 441ppi. The handset sports premium aluminium cover with radio frequency (RF) radiation shield on its back. Samsung Galaxy J3, on the other hand, has the same 5-inch display, but packs lower resolution at 1280x720 pixels.

Camera

Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus sports a 13-megapixel primary camera OV13850 sensor, f/2.2 aperture, 5-element physical lens and LED flash. The front camera is equipped with a 5MP sensor that has fixed focus and f/2.8 aperture.

Samsung Galaxy J3 offers an 8MP primary camera with LED flash, autofocus and full HD video recording. The front camera has a 5-megapixel sensor, which is sufficient for taking good quality selfies.

Processor, RAM and storage

Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus uses a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 616 Octa-core (ARM Cortex A53 x 8) processor, 2GB RAM and 16GB expandable storage.

On the other hand, Samsung closely matches its rival with a 1.5 GHz quad-core processor, 1.5GB RAM and offers 8GB internal storage with an option to expand up to 128GB.

Battery

Samsung Galaxy J3 is powered by a 2,600mAh battery, which claims to offer up to 330 hours of standby. Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus has a slightly bigger 2750mAh battery, which is said to offer close to 322 hours. Given Samsung's specs, the Galaxy J3 is expected to last longer due to its lower screen resolution.

Add-ons

Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus and Samsung Galaxy J3 have dual SIM slots and 4G LTE support. Lenovo's handset additionally offers Dolby Atmos audio system, twin stereo speakers and TheaterMax VR set support. Samsung, too, has its own add-ons, which include the all-new S Bike mode and Ultra Data Saving mode.

Price and availability

Samsung Galaxy J3 is priced at Rs. 8,990 and it is available exclusively on Snapdeal in gold, black and white colours. Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus is priced at Rs. 8,499 and comes in gold, silver and dark grey shades. It is available exclusively on Flipkart. Both phones are readily available for purchase without any hassles of flash sales and registrations.
