Being the trend-setter of big-screen devices, you expect Samsung to release such handsets but it has launched a relatively smaller screen handset called the Galaxy Feel from its Galaxy series, raising the curiosity levels among the followers of the smartphone industry. The new handset is only a 5-inch display, which is small by Samsung Galaxy standards.

The Samsung Galaxy Feel has been launched in Japan and is currently available for pre-booking on NTT DoCoMo site. However, its sales will start only in mid-June and the pricing hasn't been revealed.

The device sports a 4.7-inch HD Super AMOLED display with 720×1,280 pixels (resolution), measures 138x67x8.3 mm in dimension, weighs 149 grams and features IP65 water and dust resistance. It has an octa-core processor clocking at 1.6GHz, a 3GB RAM, a 32GB internal storage, a 16MP main camera, a 5MP front-snapper, and a 3,000mAh battery with fast charging technology.

It also supports USB Type C port for charging and data transfer, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, NFC and Bluetooth 4.2.

The news that Samsung is releasing a Galaxy device with 4.7-inch screen may surprise many, because of its tradition of upgrading screen size with every new device. But it could be seen as a business strategy. Apple launched a 4-inch device called iPhone SE last year amid talks that big-screen is "in-thing" but it proved everyone wrong by doing exceptionally well in terms of sales. So, Samsung could have taken a cue from the success of iPhone SE and released the Galaxy Feel to cater to customers who prefer a smaller handset.

It may be mentioned that the iPhone SE features a 4-inch retina display with 1,136x640 pixels (326 ppi pixel density), an A9 chip, an iOS 9.3.2 (upgradable to iOS 10.3.2), a 2GB RAM and a 16GB/64GB internal storage. It also has a 12MP iSight main camera with 1.22µ pixels, a 1.2MP front-snapper, and a 1,624mAh battery. It comes with a price tag of Rs 25,000 for the 16GB model but was recently offered at Rs 19,999 after a Rs 5,000 cash back offer.
