Salman Khan might soon work with Karan Johar in the latter's upcoming production venture, replacing KJo's supposed favourite Shah Rukh Khan.

According to a report in Koimoi, Karan Johar has approached Salman Khan for his upcoming movie "Kalank", which is a love story based in the backdrop of the partition of India.

"Kuch Kuch Hota Hai" was the only movie for which Salman has worked with Karan till date but his role was that of a supporting actor.

If the latest buzz is to be believed, "Kalank" will be the first Dharma Productions movie which will have Salman in the lead role.

Earlier, there were reports that Hrithik Roshan or Ranveer Singh might replace Shah Rukh in the upcoming film.

"Kalank" is supposedly one of Karan's dream projects and will be directed by "2 States" director, Abhishek Varman.

Meanwhile, Salman will be seen in Sooraj Barjatya's "Prem Ratan Dhan Payo", pairing with Sonam Kapoor. The film will hit screens on 12 November.

On the other side, Shah Rukh is busy with the promotions of Rohit Shetty's "Dilwale", which will feature him with Kajol. Slated to be released on 18 December, the film also features Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon.
