After limiting the availability of the Mi Band fitness tracker to registered flash sales, Xiaomi finally brings the wearable in an open sale just for one day. The Rs 999-worth fitness tracking device is available on the company's official online store in India. The benefit of an open sale is that buyers need not register for the sale in advance and rush to place their orders.

Xiaomi is promoting its fitness tracker as a suitable gift ahead of Raksha Bandhan, a festival celebrated in India to convey the bond of protection (raksha) between brother and his sisters.

On this day, a sister ties a traditional thread (rakhi) on his brother's hand and in return, he vows to protect her, besides her a gift.

This year, Raksha Bandhan falls on 29 August.

Xiaomi is also using a promotional tag line, "Bros are cool, fit bros are better," to attract women to buy the Mi Band for their brothers.

The open sale for Mi Band ends today as it is a special sale only for one day, 24 August. In case you miss the chance, you must wait for another week and go through the rigours of a flash sale to purchase the Mi Band.

The Xiaomi Mi Band is one of the cheapest fitness trackers in the market. The wearable pairs with any smartphone using Bluetooth and tracks wearer's steps, sleep and burnt calories. The information is displayed on the smartphone in a dedicated app called Mi Fit app, which is available as a free download on Google Play Store and iTunes.

The Mi Band can be used to set daily goals, get notification alerts for incoming calls and also alarms. The lack of a display makes it run for days, up to 30 days, on a single charge. You can also share your achievements on social media sites and with friends using the Mi Fit app.

After pairing your Mi Band to your smartphone, you can activate auto-unlock when the band is within a range. No passwords or passcodes are required to access your phone. It is designed to withstand water and dust, courtesy its IP67 rating.
