YU, the online-exclusive smartphone brand by Micromax, launched the YUNIQUE smartphone with compelling specs at an attractive price point on 8 September, 2015. The ultra-cheap YUNIQUE handset is being touted as the world's first 4G-enabled HD screen smartphone, paving way for rivals to follow suit.

At Rs. 4,999, YUNIQUE makes a strong statement in the budget smartphone arena and here are the top features that make the new handset stand out in the crowd.

Display

YUNIQUE packs a 4.7-inch HD display with 1280 x 720 pixel resolution and a pixel density of 312ppi. Firstly, use of HD resolution display at such low price point scores a great feat against its rivals. Other smartphones with a HD screen are priced well above Rs. 5,000 while the YUNIQUE sits under the deadline.

Other display related features include a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and Full Lamination technology for durability.

4G LTE

YUNIQUE wins in not one but two categories with its extremely-low price tag. In addition to HD screen, YUNIQUE also supports 4G LTE bandwidth, which is said to be at least 3 times faster than 3G speeds. During the smartphone's launch, YU also demonstrated the lightning speed download and upload speeds of YUNIQUE. The handset recorded close to 30Mbps download and over 7Mbps upload using Airtel's 4G network.

Software

YUNIQUE is surprisingly taking a step back from Cyanogen, which powers the YU smartphone lineup. Instead, the handset runs on Google's latest stock Android 5.1 Lollipop OS. However, the company is giving users the freedom to get Cyanogen 12.1 OS ROM through FOTA download. This gives users the freedom to choose whichever OS they wish to run on their smartphone.

Price

YU has smartly decided the price of YUNIQUE to be set at Rs. 4,999. At that price point, YU YUNIQUE rivals against industry's popular and best-selling devices such as Xiaomi Redmi 2, Motorola Moto E (Gen 2), Lenovo A6000 Plus, Huawei Honor Holly and many more. All the handsets are priced above YUNIQUE despite offering identical specification.

YUNIQUE easily wins out its rivals, at least for now until a new rival comes up with similarly priced handset.

Under the hood

YUNIQU is powered by a 64-bit 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor, Adreno 306 GPU for graphics, 1GB RAM and 8GB expandable memory up to 32GB. Given the price, the combination of the powerhouse sounds impressive. YUNIQUE also packs a 2,000mAh battery, dual SIM slots and a microSD card slot.

Other features

While YU is looking to compete with its rivals by offering great specs, some specs of the handset remain consistent with the likes of other comparing phones. The rear camera is powered by an 8MP sensor with LED flash and f/2.0 aperture. In addition, there's also a 2MP front camera for selfies.

If everything goes as planned, YUNIQUE is expected to sell handsomely in India. According to the company, half a million devices are expected to be sold by Diwali.

Moreover, YU YUNIQUE will be available in weekly flash sales exclusively via Snapdeal, every Tuesday at 12 noon. The first flash sale will be conducted on 15 September, for which the registrations are open right now.
