After Rajinikanth expressed possibilities of entering politics in near future, popular RJ-cum-actor RJ Balaji's opinion on the superstar has raised a major debate.

In a recent interview to a local channel, Balaji targeted Rajinikanth's age and said that the Thalaiva's "time is gone." He opined that Rajini's has become too old now, and his possible entry in politics does not excite him anymore.

"I waited for 25 years for him to enter politics, but now, I have lost my patience. The fans need not get emotional about what I am saying. I, too, am a fan," Balaji said. "It's not about the difficulties he would face, but what schemes can he ideate or implement now. I don't think I can expect much from him now, can I?" he added.

Further suggesting that Rajinikanth is too old for politics, the RJ said, "I like Brian Lara a lot. I used to watch all his matches, even when the matches happened late at night. Recently, he played an exhibition match in the US, but I wasn't excited to watch him play. His time is gone, and that's exactly what I feel with Rajinikanth," he concluded.

These comments on the superstar's possible political career received massive reaction on social media. While some agreed with Balaji's views, most others criticised him. Many slammed Balaji for pre-judging Rajinikanth's political success on the basis of his age, citing examples of other much older politicians who had made it big.
