Varanasi, Aug 12 (ANI): People staying near the temples situated on the banks of River Ganges flowing through Varanasi city of Uttar Pradesh left their homes as flood waters streamed in through their houses. Residents claim that rains in the last four to five days have led to increase in water levels of Ganges by 20 feet. A priest and a resident of Varanasi, Prabhu Sahrani said even ferry services in the River Ganges has stopped since past week due to fear of drowning. Heavy rains in June last year caused rivers and lakes to burst their banks, killing almost 6,000 people in the Uttarakhand.
