With just a few hours left for the BlackBerry 10 launch event, Canadian smartphone maker RIM (Research in Motion) re-opened its online store 'BlackBerry App World' with a new moniker "BlackBerry World".

The company said that the new BlackBerry World store will offer an extensive catalogue of songs, movies, TV shows, and next day availability of many current TV series. Most of the movies will hit the store the same day as their DVD releases.

"Music and video content is an integral part of a rich mobile experience. People want easy and convenient access to their favorite music, movies and TV shows wherever they are," said Frank Boulben, Chief Marketing Officer at Research In Motion.

He further said, "RIM is committed to working with content providers to bring the best, most up-to-date content to our customers with BlackBerry 10, and to make it easy for them to get what they want."

The video download and rental section in BlackBerry World will initially be available in the US, UK and Canada, while the music downloads section will hit 18 countries including India.

RIM also released a press note stating that it will officially launch its new platform BlackBerry 10 along with two new smartphones - a full touch-screen handset and a flagship QWERTY keypad-based smartphone on Wednesday.

The company has confirmed that the launch will happen simultaneously in New York, Toronto, London, Paris, Dubai, Johannesburg, Jakarta and Delhi. A live webcast of the event is expected to begin at 10:00 AM ET.

The excitement around the release of BlackBerry 10-based smartphones has evinced a new sense of optimism in the global market. RIM's stock price has nearly tripled to $16.8 per share from a nine-year low in September, reported The Times of India.
