Several rumours regarding Season 3 of "Rick and Morty" have been surfacing recently even though the air date of the third season has not yet confirmed. Recently, the series has been rumoured to premiere in the second half of 2016, contrary to the previous rumours that stated a 2017 release.

According to the Movie Pilot, in the third season, Rick might be more self aware of the environment around him. Several speculations state that he is going to find out that he is actually an animated character who has a TV show of his own.

However, this information might not come as a surprise to the fans as in the previous episodes, there have been several instances where the characters from the show interact with the audience and break the fourth wall. All such instances might make Rick finally realise about his existence in an animated world and lead to his self-awareness.

Movie Pilot has also stated that the new additions to Rick's character might be related to the series' biggest secret. As reported by the website, Dan Harmon, co-creator of "Rick and Morty," has teased that there is a shocking secret about the show that only the creators know right now.

"We haven't talked about this in a while, but before we wrote the first episode of 'Rick and Morty,' we had a conversation where, I think it was Mike McMahan who said, 'Should we decide that there is a secret we keep from the audience forever? But we always know it.' I won't say what. We said, 'Oh, what about this? And we went, 'Yeah, that's really cool.' I was kind of obsessed with it for a while," Harmon said.

Besides new developments in Rick's character, Season 3 will also introduce a new villainous alien overlord. The Morning Ledger has reported that the new antagonist will be voiced by a lucky fan instead of Justin Roiland, who lent his voice to the previous overlord in Season 2. The fan's name is Jonas B and he is a citizen of Canada.
