A new trend is taking the film industry in the country by storm. More actresses are venturing out as producers for movies they feel should be watched. Be it Anushka Sharma with NH10 or Priyanka Chopra with Saravann, it is evident that female superstars are ready to help lesser-aided movies get a platform.

Another name that has found a longing towards the producer's seat is Richa Chadha. The Fukrey actress has turned producer for a short film, trying her hands on the new role. The film is titled Khoon Aali Chithi, which roughly translates to letter written in blood.

Chadha, partnered with Royal Stag Barrel Large Short Films, to release the movie recently. The 14-odd minute Punjabi short film is a love story set in the backdrop of turmoil in Punjab in the early 1990s. The story explores an innocent love story of a young boy who's set to write a letter in his blood for his lover and ends up in tragic circumstances.

The film directed by Rupinder Inderjit is now available to watch digitally on YouTube with subtitles. The short film has a special screening for celebrities in the industry. Faces like Imtiaz Ali, Ali Fazal and Swara Bhaskar were seen attending the launch.

Talking to the press, the actress confessed that she chose to debut on the digital platform with a short film rather than the feature film because the internet offers more choices for their content. "People used to tell me to get into production, but I haven't thought about that as I was really busy. I always wanted to make content which I like to see as an audience and that's how I came on board to produce this film," she said at the screening.

It is also interesting to note that a number of Bollywood celebrities are taking keen interest in the Punjabi industry. Punjabi cinema seems to act as a playground for experimentation. Which is why, set aside Chopra's Punjabi venture and Chadha's short film, Ekta Kapoor is also ready to take on the Punjabi lions as she debuts into the market with Diljit Dosanjh to launch the first Punjabi superhero the niche industry has seen.
