According to the latest report from Gaadiwaadi, the launch date of Renault Kwid has been moved to 15 October. The report claims that the pseudo SUVish hatchback was delayed since the first few days of the month are not auspicious enough for the launch.

Kwid has already received over 5,000 bookings, making it one of the most anticipated cars of the year, the report added.

Though the official booking of the Kwid was started on Thursday, 17 September, the dealers were getting advanced bookings for the vehicle for Rs 5,000 two weeks ahead of the official event.

Based on the latest CMF-A platform co-developed by Renault and Nissan, Kwid caters to the entry-level hatchback segment, which is the domain of Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai. The SUV stance in hatchback form is the USP of the Kwid. In terms of dimensions, Kwid measures 3,679mm long, 1,579mm tall and 1,471mm wide.

Kwid is powered by a 799cc 3-cylinder petrol motor that develops 53bhp and 72Nm. The engine is mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. The company might also introduce an automated manual transmission (AMT) version on a later stage.

The car comes with various features, including the class leading ground clearance of 180 mm and a boot capacity of 300 litres with a seven-inch touchscreen Media Nav system and a digital instrument cluster.

As a sub-four metre vehicle, Kwid will get excise duty benefit. It is likely to be priced in the range of Rs 3-4 lakh and will be pitted against Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 and Hyundai Eon.
