Launched on September 5 2016, Reliance Jio took India's telecom sector by storm by introducing free welcome offer, which entitled subscribers three months of unlimited HD Voice (VoLTE: Voice-over-LTE), video calling, unlimited SMS (9000) and unlimited high speed data.
This apparently forced smartphone makers to launch new phones with VoLTE support, and also to upgrade their existing devices to make them compatible to VoLTE HD calling feature via software updates.
Just when the welcome offer was about to close, Reliance Jio MD and chairman Mukesh Ambani on December 1 launched the "Happy New Year Offer," which extended the freebies to all its 50 million plus subscribers till March 31, 2017.
Now, search engine giant Google has introduced VoLTE feature support in the latest Android 7.1.1 Nougat update to the company's flagship Google Pixel and Pixel XL models.

Besides the VoLTE feature, the new update also brings app shortcuts, circular launcher icons, enhanced Live Wallpaper, profession theme-based Emojis, GIFs sharing on messages and image keyboard support among others.
If you have received OTA (Over-The-Air) notification message for this update:
1. Select "Yes, I'm in."
2. After the software is downloaded, select "Install now."
3. After the software is installed, your phone will re-start automatically.
4. Your phone is now updated.
Since the OTA roll-out process is being carried out in phases, it will take several weeks to reach all the corners of India.
Until then, device owners can check for updates manually by going to Settings >> About Phone >> System Updates >> check for the new firmware.
Once you install the new update, Google Pixel phone series owners go to Settings >> Wireless and networks >> more >> Cellular network settings >> tap Enhanced 4G LTE Mode, and the users will be able to avail all the Reliance Jio services.
