Tamil film fans can celebrate this year's Ramzan with five major releases. "Madras" directed by Pa Ranjith, "Salim" directed by N V Nirmal Kumar, "Jigarthanda" by Karthik Subbaraj, "Sathuranga Vettai" by Vinoth and Arun Kumar directorial "Sarabham" are all set for their Ramzan release. All these films are opening with high expectations and the industry insiders have welcomed them with both hands and excitement.
"Madras" directed by "Atta Kathi" fame Pa Ranjith has Karthi and Catherine Tresa in the lead.
Ranjith's "Madras" is set in the North Madras and showcases the culture of people in the area. And in this film, Karthi is presented as someone who is well educated. The plot of the film revolves around how he solves a problem that a group of people are facing.
The first look poster and trailer of "Madras" went viral and have raised expectation among the fans. The film produced by Studio Green will hit theatres for Ramzan.
"Salim" is an action thriller directed by NV Nirmal Kumar. The film stars Vijay Antony and Aksha Pardasany in the lead roles. Antony will play the role of Salim, who is a doctor and Pardasany will be Salim's fiancé Nisha. It also stars Azam Sheriif and Premgi Amaren in pivotal roles.
Antony, who has to perform a lot of action sequences in the film took rigorous training in Taekwondo for two months to fit in the role. Apart from acting, he has also composed the music for the film.
The cinematography is handled by M.C.Ganesh Chandra and editing is done by M.V. Rajesh Kumar. The film produced jointly by Studio 9 Productions, Sri Green Productions and Vijay Antony Film Corporation is all set for its release on 25 July.
"Jigarthanda" is directed by Karthik Subbaraj, known for his film "Pizza" (2012). The film starring Siddharth and Lakshmi Menon is a musical gangster film and is listed among the top five Indian films to see in 2014 by Forbes India.
"Jigarthanda" is a triangular love story between an aspiring film maker played by Siddharth, an 'Idli' seller played by Lakshmi Menon and a gangster played by Bobby Simha. The film is set in the city of Madurai. It will also see Karunakaran, Guru Somasundaram, Prathap Pothen, Soundara Raja and Vinodhini in pivotal roles.
Music of "Jigarthanda" is composed by Santhosh Narayanan and the stunt is mastered by Billa Jagan, whereas, the choreography is done by Baskar. The sound of the film is done jointly by Vishnu Govind and Sree Sankara and the cinematography is handled by Gavemic U Ary. The script is done by Subbaraj itself and is jointly produced by S Karthiresan and Shri Meenakshi Creations. The film is all set for its release on 25 July.
"Sathuranga Vettai" directed by debutant H. Vinoth is a comedy thriller. The film deals with an individual's race to make money and how he tries to strike balance in his life with money. It's about a common man who thinks money is the solution to all his problems.
The film stars Natrajan (Natty), Ishara, Ilavarasu, Piraisudan, Valavan, Dharani and Ramachandiran in the lead roles. The music of the film is composed by Sean Roldan and lyrics are done by Kaviperarasu Vairamuthu, Madhan Karky, Ganesh Kumar and Muthamil.
The cinematography is handled by K.G.Venkatesh and the editing is done by Raja Sethupathy. The film produced by N.Subash Chandra Bose, Manobala and Sanjay Rawal is distributed by Thirrupathi Brothers.
"Sarabham" is a crime drama directed by Arun Kumar. The title "Sarabham" refers to the mythical creature found in 'Yali' of ancient architecture. The creature has the lion's body with bird's wings. 'Yali' symbolizes freedom and power, which represents the hero's character in the film.
The film stars Naveen Chandra and Salony Luthra in the lead roles. The songs of the film are composed by Britto Michael. The cinematography is done by Krishnan Vasanth and is edited by Leo John Paul. The film is produced by C V Arun Kumar under the banner of Thirukumaran Entertainment and is set to release by Ramzan weekend.
