Sivakarthikeyan starrer "Rajini Murugan" has been welcomed in a grand manner by the Malaysian audience as the film has made a stupendous collection in the foreign country. While it managed to beat Dhanush's opening weekend record of "Thanga Magan", it failed to surpass the business of Ajith's "Vedalam".

In its first weekend in Malaysia, "Rajini Murugan" collected Rs 81.96 lakh from 31 screens. The audience turn out at the theatres was exceptional and this helped the movie make good collection.

Dhanush's "Thanga Magan" had collected Rs 50.06 lakh a few weeks ago and this record was broken by "Rajini Murugan". But, the Sivakarthikeyan starrer could not surpass the mammoth first weekend collection of Ajith's "Vedalam", which had earned Rs 2.97 crore in the opening weekend.

Nonetheless, the performance of "Rajini Murugan" at the Malaysian box office has been appreciated by the trade pundits as the actor is no match to Ajith in terms of market. The collection made by Siva's film clearly indicates the growing popularity of the actor not only in Tamil Nadu but also outside the country.

"Rajini Murugan" is a comedy movie backed with regular commercial ingredients. Ponram has written the story and directed the film. Keerthy Suresh plays the female lead in the flick, which also has Soori, Samuthirakani, Rajkiran and others in the cast.

The Tamil movie was released on 14 January and clashed with other Pongal releases like Vishal's "Kathakali", Udhayanidhi Stalin's "Gethu" and Sasikumar's "Tharai Thappattai". "Rajini Murugan" has emerged as the winner at the box office worldwide among the latest Kollywood films.

In its home territory Tamil Nadu, "Rajini Murugan" reportedly made a business of Rs 19.25 crore in four-day holiday weekend. It was released in above 375 screens in the state. The movie raked in about Rs 97 lakh from Chennai alone.
