Vijay's "Puli", which was released on 1 October despite facing some last minute issues, made decent business on Saturday, 3 October.

The Tamil movie had got fantastic response for advance booking and this has translated into decent collection. "Puli" witnessed above 70% occupancy in Tamil Nadu and above 80% occupancy in Chennai.

After making Rs 10.75 crore on the first day, the film earned Rs 7.50 crore on its second day (Gandhi Jayanthi). On the third day, the collection saw a huge dip as it was a non-holiday Saturday. As per the buzz, it has earned Rs 6.30 crore to take its three day total to Rs 24.55 crore. However, this is a speculated figure and the official figure is yet to be out.

The interesting part of "Puli" success story is that the movie has been well-received in overseas centres. It is released in above 450 screens in countries like US (102 screens), Canada (17 screens), Singapore (10 screens), UK (58 screens), France (40 screens), Sri Lanka (23 screens), Denmark (20 screens), Switzerland (14) and Malaysia (93 screens).

"Puli" has got mixed reviews and this has affected the collections to some extent. Adding to that, the performance of the Hindi and Telugu versions of "Puli" has not lived up to the expectations, causing a huge problem for the distributors. The Tollywood version was only released on 3 October.

The movie is made with the budget of above Rs 100 crore. The producer and distributors can earn profits if the movie performs well for seven to ten days in theatres. As a result, the next couple of days will be crucial.

"Puli" stars Ilayathalapathy Vijay, Kiccha Sudeep, Sridevi Kapoor, Shruti Haasan and Hansika Motwani in key roles. It is written and directed by Chimbu Deven.
