Princess Charlotte, wearing a blue-flowered frock, gave a little wave, much to the delight of the assembled crowd who had gathered to see the royal family of four.

The star of the Canadian royal tour is Princess Charlotte, on her first official visit. Shortly after landing in Victoria, British Columbia on Saturday (24 September), uniformed guards were seen unloading the young princesss dresses for the eight-day visit.

The year-old daughter of Kate Middleton is making her first overseas trip, while three-year-old brother George has already visited Australia and New Zealand.

Kate Middleton carried her daughter down the steps of the Canadian Government Airbus 310, taking care of her safety as Princess Charlotte appeared to have a small graze on her right knee.

The next time the public see Princess Charlotte and Prince George will be on 1 October as the royal childrens appearances are being restricted to give them privacy and shield them from scrutiny.

It would have been overwhelming for them, royal watcher Debbie Burnham told NBC news. This allows the parents to relax.

Prince George seemed confused by the Canadian prime ministers attempt to high-five him. Trudeau knelt down on the tarmac to greet the young prince, raising his hand in greeting. It was an embarrassing moment as the Canadian then tried to shake the three-year olds hand.

Prince George held tightly on to his father, Prince Williams hand, obviously not having learned the correct way to salute a Canadian premier. Its not known whether Trudeau gave the instruction Gimme five!

Kate and William will visit Vancouver on Sunday (25 September) to visit Downtown Eastside, which is an area known for poverty and homeless addicts.

The royals will then move on to an immigrant welcome centre where they will talk with refugee families from Syria.

More than 30,000 refugees have settled in Canada since Trudeau was elected prime minister in October 2015.
