India Test captain Virat Kohli said that MS Dhoni believes in young talent and give them ample opportunities to grow.

Kohli took over the Test captaincy from Dhoni after the third Test in Melbourne in Australia, while India were touring down under last year, as the latter decided to hang his boots from the longer format of the game.

Kohli also belives that Dhoni is the most successful captain the country has ever had, while adding whatever Dhoni has done for Indian cricket will be hard for anybody to surpass.

"I don't know why people say he has not left a legacy. He is the most successful Indian captain ever. That in itself is a legacy. Most of the players in the team have been given ample opportunities by him. He believes in the youngsters. He believes in giving them opportunities," said Kohli in an interview to ESPNCricinfo's The Cricket Monthly.

Dhoni does not like to experiment with his squads as the entire cricket fraternity knows. He likes to back his instinct and support his fellow players. The world saw Dhoni not making any major changes during the World Cup with the India team and during the IPL with the Chennai Super Kings. Consistency has been the key for Dhoni.

"It is just a lovely transition and transformation that he follows, where he lets people play and then he lets the guys who are not playing get a chance in another series and gradually groom them along the way as we go ahead in our career," Kohli said.

Kohli also admitted that he himself was groomed while playing under Dhoni. Kohli and his contemporaries in the current India team have benefited from "Captain Cool's" leadership skills.

"He has understood what it takes to balance both – the guys who played before us and people who are playing in the team now – and that is a wonderful thing to do as a captain," Kohli concluded.
