Vishal's "Poojai" has taken a good opening on the first day at the Tamil Nadu and Kerala box office.

"Poojai," which hit the screens on 22 October, received mixed reviews from the critics. Despite clashing with Vijay's "Kaththi," the film opened well.

"Poojai" has got the best ever opening for a Vishal starrer and the film has minted approximately ₹4.10 crore nett on day one in TN and Kerala area. "#Poojai nets Rs 4.10 Cr (approx) TN, Kerala day 1, good opening, #Vishal's best ever. Pooja Telugu opened very well," tweeted entertainment industry tracker Sreedhar Pillai.

Although the film performed well, it failed to outperform Vijay's "Kaththi" which took a humongous opening in Tamil Nadu and Kerala minting ₹12.5 crore nett and ₹1.75 crore nett, respectively.

It needs to be seen as to how the Vishal starrer performs in the coming days. The long weekend might help the film fetch good collections and end the first week on a good note.

The Telugu version of the film titled "Pooja" has taken a decent opening on the first day at the AP/Nizam box office. The action entertainer is estimated to have earned around ₹1 crore share on the opening day, which is Vishal's career best. Its performance has been good in mass centres, while its overall business has been decent, reported Andhraboxoffice.

"Pooja" has maintained steady business on the second  day of its release due to Diwali holiday. It will be interesting to see how the film fares with new releases including Nikhil Siddharth's "Karthikeya" and Shah Rukh Khan's "Happy New Year" set to hit screens.

Directed by Hari, "Poojai" (aka "Pooja") is a commercial potboiler with loads of action. Shruti Haasan plays the female lead opposite Vishal for the first time, while Sathyaraj, Radhika, Soori, Kausalya and Mukesh Tiwari are also part of the film's cast.

Yuvan Shankar Raja has composed the film's soundtracks, whereas cinematographys is handled by Priyan. Vishal Film Factory banner has produced the action entertainer.
