PM Modi meets LK Advani on his birthday

New Delhi, Nov 09 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday met senior BJP leader LK Advani at his residence on his 87th birthday. PM Modi arrived at Advani’s residence in New Delhi to seek the BJP veteran's blessings after he came back from Varanasi. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan were also present among other BJP leaders. Meanwhile, BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain said that Advani has always been a role model for the party. Advani had served as the BJP President for the longest period since its inception in 1980. India doubles scholarship to Bhutan students

Thimphu, Nov 09 (ANI): President Pranab Mukherjee on Saturday said the government had doubled the scholarship amount to Bhutanese students during his two-day visit. Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay and other dignitaries were present at the event where Mukherjee unveiled a school project and a 546-km road project with India’s assistance. Addressing a convention in capital Thimphu, Mukherjee said there was a deep confidence and trust between the two countries and people. Three agreements were signed. One between the Royal University of Bhutan and the National Innovation Centre in India, another between the Royal University of Bhutan and the University of English and Foreign Languages in India and the third between the Royal Civil Service Commission and the Indian Institute of Management (IIM). Artist couple from Nepal displayed etching, an intricate art form, in India

New Delhi, Nov 08 (ANI): Uma Shankar Shah and Seema Shah, an artist couple from Nepal exhibited their various etchings and oil paintings in Delhi depicting the cultural mix of Nepal and India. Their work reflects the impressions of Indian Mythology, Ramayan and Buddhism which comes out so well that it becomes difficult to distinguish between the two cultures. While Seema Shah comes from the ancient Indian city of Varanasi, Umashankar Shah is from the plains of Mahottari in Nepal. The artwork of both artists is well appreciated by the visitors. The artist couple from Nepal is looking for better exposure and appreciation in India. The exhibition titled 'Sacred Spaces' will continue at Shridharani Gallery at Triveni Kala Sangam till November 14. Nov 8, 2014

Laxmikant Parsekar sworn in as Goa Chief Minister

Panaji, Nov 09 (ANI): Former Goa Health Minister Laxmikant Parsekar has been sworn in as the state's next Chief Minister after Manohar Parrikar. Parsekar took oath as the chief minister of the state and pledged to work for the welfare of the state and abide by the norms and duties ensued on him. He was administered oath by state Governor Mridula Sinha at Raj Bhawan in Panaji. Parsekar was earlier chosen unanimously as the chief ministerial candidate after a legislature party meeting. Manohar Parrikar, who is expected to become the next Defence Minister of the country, earlier resigned as Goa Chief Minister. With Parrikar's resignation, the entire state cabinet comprising 12 ministers was dissolved and the fresh cabinet also took oath along with the new chief minister. Nov 8, 2014

President Mukherjee inaugurates Jigme Wangchuck Hydro Power Training Institute in Bhutan

Thimpu, Nov 08 (ANI): President Pranab Mukherjee on Saturday inaugurated Jigme Wangchuck Hydro Power Training Institute in thimpu city of Bhutan. He said that India's relationship with Bhutan is an "exemplary" one that takes care of each other's concerns and vital interests. Mukherjee also called upon both nations to earnestly take up their role within SAARC for advancement of the region and for global peace. Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, along with his Cabinet colleagues, was present during the function. Four more projects have been taken up now as joint ventures between public sector undertakings of India and Bhutan, the foundation stone of the first such project being laid by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi when he visited Bhutan in June. AAP protest in Chennai for release of fishermen

Chennai, Nov 08 (ANI): The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Saturday went on a hunger strike demanding the Central Government to take necessary steps to bring back the five fishermen who are facing death sentences in Sri Lanka. About 75 AAP cadres took part in this hunger strike. They raised slogans demanding the central government to take necessary legal steps to release the fishermen. The Colombo High Court had earlier this month sentenced five Indian fishermen to death on charges of drug smuggling. They had been arrested on a boat in the seas off northern Jaffna's Delft islet. Power project in Kashmir to resolve problem of electricity supply

Srinagar, Nov 08 (ANI): A micro power project is under construction in Jammu and Kashmir to resolve the problems of electricity supply and generate employment for the locals. A private company is investing into power project in Baramulla district by mobilising water resources of the Kashmir valley, which after completion would generate 8 MW of electricity supply to the adjoining villages. The residents welcomed the project which would resolve problems of power outages. Goa CM Manohar Parrikar tenders his resignation

New Delhi, Nov 08 (ANI): Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has tendered his resignation to take up the post of Union defence minister on Sunday. Parrikar faxed his resignation to Goa governor Mridula Sinha. Sinha is out of station and is likely to arrive in the state in the afternoon in time for the swearing-in ceremony of the new chief minister scheduled at 4:00 PM. The BJP legislative committee is set to meet at noon to decide on the new Goa chief minister and the new leader will be elected at 4:00 in the evening. Parrikar is scheduled to go to Delhi on Saturday evening after the new chief minister takes over the charge. Parrikar will also file his nomination on Monday for Rajya Sabha seat from Lucknow.
