Bangladesh lawyer demands punishment for convicted war criminals of 1971

Dhaka, Nov 5 (ANI): Speakers from different sectors with a common conviction to erase Jamaat-e-Islami party came together at a forum in Bangladesh's capital city Dhaka recently. They demanded punishment for those who have been convicted in the trial of war criminals of 1971 and said the punishment should not be reviewed under any circumstances and also presidential mercy must not be rewarded. Afroz was addressing the 'forum for secular Bangladesh and trial of war criminals of 1971' organised on the occasion of the 42nd year of Bangladesh's Constitution. Meanwhile, journalist and human rights activist Shahriar Kabir, during his address to the gathering at the seminar, emphasized that until and unless Jamaat-e-Islami is rooted out from Bangladesh, the country will never be able to fulfill its dream of the dead soldiers who fought the war of liberation. Former PM Manmohan Singh receives Japan's top national award

Tokyo, Nov 05 (ANI): Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday was awarded "Grand Cordon of the Order of the Paulownia Flowers", one of Japan's highest awards from Japanese Emperor Akihito, as part of a bi-annual decoration ceremony. He received the highest possible award in the Orders of the Rising Sun for his significant contribution to the enhancement of relations and promotion of friendship between Japan and India for about 35 years. It was first awarded in 1888 and is only topped by the Supreme Orders of the Chrysanthemum. India to designate special official to war-torn Iraq, says Sushma Swaraj

New Delhi, Nov 5 (ANI): India would designate a special official to take stalk of the situation of Indians stranded in war-torn Iraq, informed Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj after their families urged the government to expedite the efforts of bringing back their loved ones. Assuring full support to the kin of stranded, Swaraj said the ministry is in touch with the officials in Iraq who have ensured that Indians are safe and working there. The Minister also assured the families that the government was looking at all kinds of possibilities and was working tirelessly to get back the citizens stranded in the war-ravaged country. Around 41 Indian citizens were captured by the ISIL in Mosul in June this year. The Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) and other Sunni Muslim militant groups had seized towns and cities across Syria and Iraq in a lightning advance, according to media reports. Pakistan leader terms border blast as 'failed conspiracy', pays respect at Golden Temple

Amritsar, Nov 5 (ANI): A legislator from Pakistan Punjab Assembly, Suraiya Naseem termed the suicide attack at Wagah border as 'failed conspiracy' to create differences between the two neighbours, amid paying her respect at the Sikh shrine, Golden temple, in Amritsar recently. At least 60 people were killed and 110 wounded on November 02, when the explosion ripped through a car park about 500 metres from Pakistan's border gate just as hundreds of people left the daily performance. At least two Pakistani Taliban splinter groups have claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it was revenge for the army's military operation against insurgents in the tribal region of North Waziristan. After offering prayers at Golden Temple, Naseem said that the militancy is a threat for both India and Pakistan, which needs to be tackled through mutual cooperation. Condemning the militant attack, Naseem said the blast at Wagah border on Pakistan side was an attempt to sour the relations between the two neighbours, but has miserably failed. Nov 5, 2014

Hundreds of people were killed and thousands of villages devastated by the worst flooding in decades in the Kashmir valley. Roads in Srinagar, Kashmir's main city were transformed into stagnant canals strewn with wreckage, trash and dead animals.
