Mehboob Beigh decides to quit NC, says party cannot counter BJP

Anantnag, Nov 16 (ANI): In a major setback to the ruling National Conference in Jammu and Kashmir, senior party leader Mehboob Beigh on Sunday withdrew his candidature and decided to support main opposition Peoples Democratic Party Patron Mufti Mohammad Syeed. Beigh said that he considers BJP as RSS and that in order to stop such ideologies from coming to the state, he will support Mufti. He also alleged that the NC cannot counter the BJP and thus his decision to join hands with Mufti is for the welfare of the state. He also expressed displeasure on NC for not inviting any leaders from South Kashmir constituency to any parliamentary or board meetings. His brother Purshottam Das said that Rampal's supporters will not move until they are given justice adding that the followers have been taught lessons of life by their preacher. Students in Kashmir demand bridge construction as they have to cross river on boat to reach school

Rajouri, Nov 16 (ANI): School children in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir risk their lives to go to a school by crossing a river as there is no bridge over it. Students in Nadpur Dhallian village cross River Manawar on a boat everyday to get to their schools while locals also have to go by same mode to get to the other side. People complain that even after repeated complaints, the administration did not construct a bridge. A school teacher, Isher Singh said that if a bridge is built, more children would come from nearby villages to attend school. Singh also said that many parents feared sending their children to school as there were several incidents of children and villagers getting swept away or drowning in the river water. Meanwhile, the assembly polls in the state are scheduled to take place from November 25 and the five-phased elections will conclude on December 20. Counting of votes will take place on December 23. Roadshow promotes tourism between India, Bangladesh

Agartala, Nov 16 (ANI): A four-day road show, 'Maitri Tourism 2014', kicked off in Agartala to promote tourism between India and Bangladesh. The event is being organised by Bangladesh Foundation for Tourism Development and Bangladesh Inbound Tour Operators Association in collaboration with Tripura Tourism Development Forum and Tripura Tourism Development Corporation. A seminar took place to discuss the sub-regional tourism circuit linking India's northeast, Bangladesh and Myanmar, and the land routes linking the capital cities of Dhaka and Agartala. A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) Secretary Subhas Das said tourism is among the most flourishing sectors in the world and plays a significant role in generating employment. PM Modi unveils Mahatma Gandhi statue in Brisbane

Brisbane, Nov 16 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday unveiled the statue of iconic freedon fighter Mahatma Gandhi in Brisbane Australia. Modi unveiled the statue even as supporters cheered him and shouted slogans at the Brisbane's Roma Street Parkland. Modi also offered flowers and paid his respect to Gandhi. Former honorary Indian consul in Brisbane Parsram Punj also participated in unveiling of the Gandhi statue with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the city. PM Modi is in the Australian city for the 9th G20 summit. The Prime Minister has planned extra events in Brisbane during his four-day visit including the unveiling of the statue, talks with Australian Prime Minister, Tony Abbott, among other events. PM Modi's visit to Australia will hopefully strengthen ties with the near 300,000-strong Indian diaspora in the country, with a friendly tax regime for non-residents and options for dual citizenship on the wish list. Bus collides with truck in Uttar Pradesh, killing 12

Moradabad, Nov 16 (ANI): Twelve people died and four others were injured when a bus carrying 16 passengers collided head on with a truck in Moradabad district of Uttar Pradesh on Sunday. The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital. City superintendent of police Pradeep Gupta said that around 16 passengers were traveling in the bus and they were about to attend a religious event. Five infants die in Dharmapuri government hospital within 12 hours

Dharmapuri, Nov 16 (ANI): Five new born babies including four baby girls died at the Dharmapuri Medical College Hospital in Tamil Nadu’s Dharmapuri district within a span of 12 hours. Three babies were born in primary health centers (PHC) and were later admitted with respiratory and other complications. The incident however has shown light on the poor reproductive health of women in this backward district. Dharmapuri Medical College Dean Dr Elangovan said that of the five babies, three babies were severely underweight and the other two suffered from Respiratory distress syndrome. Nov 16, 2014
