Department of epidemics in Coimbatore organises awareness meet on Ebola

Coimbatore, Nov 23 (ANI): The Department of Epidemics in Coimbatore city on Sunday organised an awareness meet to make medical and paramedical staff more sensitive about treating patients diagnosed with the dreaded Ebola. India quarantined a man who was cured of Ebola in Liberia but continued to show traces of the virus in samples of his semen after arriving in the country, Health Minister said. The ministry said that the Indian national tested negative for Ebola in tests conforming to World Health Organisation (WHO) guidelines, but had been quarantined as a precautionary measure when he arrived at New Delhi airport on November 10. Around 400 doctors and physicians from the city took part in the meet. Speaking to a mediaperson, chief of medical unit and professor of medicine at Coimbatore Medical College (CMC), Doctor Usha said that measures have already been taken to detect Ebola patients at airports. Nobel peace laureate Kailash Satyarthi urges UN to end child slavery

New Delhi, Nov 23 (ANI): Nobel peace laureate Kailash Satyarthi urged United Nations to prioritize abolition of child slavery while addressing a candle light march in New Delhi. Satyarthi, 60, whose non-government organisation (NGO) Bachpan Bachao Andolan (BBA) has been credited with freeing over 80,000 child labourers in India over 30 years, said it was unbelievable that slavery was still so prevalent. Chhattisgarh sterilisation deaths: Congress leaders seek CM Raman Singh's resignation

Bilaspur, Nov 23 (ANI): Congress party staged a protest in Chhattisgarh to demand resignation of Chief Minister Raman Singh and State Health Minister Amar Agarwal after more than a dozen women died at a mass sterilisation camp. Last week at least 15 women died at a government-run family planning camp in central state, where 83 women were sterilised. Meanwhile, Congress leader Bhakta Charan Das said Prime Minister Narendra Modi should intervene and order an investigation while Singh should also be asked to step down. Congress members walked the streets holding banners and shouted slogans as a retaliation to the incident. Meanwhile, Congress unit of Chhattisgarh President Bhupesh Baghel said an FIR should be filed against Agarwal for the incident.
