Dhaka holds Photo Exhibition dedicated to 1971 Liberation War

Dhaka, Dec 10 (ANI): A photo exhibition depicting the atrocities committed during the Liberation War of 1971 is being held in Bangladesh's capital Dhaka. Titled '1971 Genocide and Tortures', the exhibition has been organised by Bangladesh National Museum and Genocide and Torture Archive and Museum Trust as the nation observes December as the month of Liberation. The eight-day exhibition aims to illustrate the torture the people of the country were subjected to. It also offers a glimpse into the past to the young generation and helps them learn about the freedom struggle of Bangladesh. Meanwhile, a visitor Fatema Mamun, said the photos at the exhibition reminded her of the days when she lived in constant fear. On display at the exhibition were numerous paintings, photographs, sketches and replicas of artworks by eminent artists of the country to portray the heinous and inhuman torture committed by the Pakistani occupation army and the level of horror faced by the people. College students in Bihar observe Human Rights Day

Patna, Dec 10 (ANI): Students of a women's college in Bihar formed a human chain on Wednesday (December 10) on the occasion of Human Rights Day. Students held banners and placards to raise awareness about human rights and endorsed the significance of the day. Human Rights Day is a United Nations (UN) endeavor to end discrimination and uplift the global human rights conditions. Nursery admissions: HC refuses to stay scrapping of points system

Politicos on government removing section 309 from IPC

New Delhi, Dec 10 (ANI): The Home Ministry on Wednesday informed Parliament that the government has decided to delete section 309 of the Indian Penal Code which criminalises attempt to suicide. The Centre also said that 18 states and four union territories have supported deleting Sec 309. The move was recommended by the Law Commission along with amendment of certain other sections of the CrPC and IPC in consultation with all stake holders. Many politicos backed the decision. SC directs BCCI to postpone elections till Jan 31

New Delhi, Dec10 (ANI): The Narendra Modi government is thinking to confer the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian award, on former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. According to reports, a formal announcement in this regard is expected to be put in public domain on December 25 when the nation will celebrate Vajpaye's leader's 90th birthday. As per the reports available, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government, which was voted to power this May, may bestow its first Bharat Ratna on Vajpayee on January 26 next year. Reacting over this veteran BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi said that no one deserves Bharat Ratna more than Vajpayee. Mathura MP and former Bollywood actress, Hema Malini, also echoed similar views. SC extends stay on execution of 1993 Mumbai blasts convict Yakub Memon

New Delhi, Dec 10 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Wednesday further extended the stay on the execution of Yakub Abdul Razak Memon, lone death row convict in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case. The court issued notices to STF Maharashtra and CBI on Memon's plea seeking review of death penalty in the blasts case. The court had on March 21, 2013, upheld the death sentence of Memon. The Prem Nagar locality in Dhandari remained tense as people gathered outside the victim's house and protested against the police.
